Planned network maintenance Sat 27th Sep/Mon 29th Sept

This maintenance is scheduled for the middle of the day:
2.00pm Saturday 27th September – 5.00pm Saturday 27th September.
2.00pm Monday 29th September – 3.00pm Monday 29th September.
Any specific reason why this is being done in the daytime? Is this work on the BNGs?

I had a suspicion it was related to the BNGs purely because of the timing (all the ops/vendors on standby in case of any issues?). I've never seen the bandwidth capacity increase announcements like this before.

A brief overview is...its complicated.
I believe Kelly may have mentioned some bits in another thread.  The DCT handle all the official announcements around here so anything more will come from them.

So, the appearance of pcl-bng03. Does that imply the BNGs just aren't capable of handling 75k+ users each?

You would assume they've been scaled correctly seeing as Juniper have been contracted to provide them for hundreds of ISPs already.

Yes, you might. But what's happened is that the BNG gateways have been run at a max of about 70k users since after the 17th, never reaching the 75-80k they had before, and now there's a new gateway so that they won't have to. I suppose it's also possible that it's more about the amount of bandwidth flowing through them rather than the number of users on each, but there are only graphs for the number of users on a per-gateway basis.
