Pinggggggg

Is it still considered a security risk to have ICMP ping enabled on your router? At one time it was supposed to be the classic way in for hackers but there are so many always-on systems these days that I personally can't see the risk. And am I right in saying that some web sites rely on ping for checking MTU size?

Re: Pinggggggg

I guess i you reply to a ping it's an invitation for someone to keep knocking and see if they can get in.
If they don't think you're there they *may* move on to easier targets. I'm not aware of any reason to have responding to ping switched on.

Re: Pinggggggg

Agreed,
There's no reason we'd advise having ICMP ping enabled, sometimes it can be handy to diagnose problems but is rarely used.
