looking at these results, it is quite possible.
Can you try pinging some networks like bbc.co.uk and google.co.uk?
This will get rid of the possibility that there may be some congestion problems with the other networks.

Hi Scott
are those okay?

Re: Ping times... again...

Those ping times are excellent! No packet loss, and no latency issues... I would say there seems to be no problems with congestion/contention on that connection!

Re: Ping times... again...

should I see a re-sync on the connections when this comes into play, I did on one (mcgurka), but not the other(dscentral)!

Re: Ping times... again...

I've just had a look and the info I can see shows the dscentral line running in fast mode as opposed to interleaved.

Re: Ping times... again...

Scott,
A resync early this morning would tie in with interleaving being removed.

Re: Ping times... again...

Hmm, well the mcgurka line reconnected at around 4am after an episode of 'ATM FAILED! Peer Teminated.'
But Dscentral has been up and connected for 36hours now..
Do you reckon a reboot of the router would fix this up?

Re: Ping times... again...

Scott,
If it's already showing as being on the fast path, then it shouldn't be an issue.  A few pings from your end would show whether or not you were seeing the benefits.
If you were not, just try to reboot your router.

Re: Ping times... again...

I know, im just curious as to why the DSL link on the Dscentral router appears (and i say appears, because I could be wrong) not to have dropped, dock street did.
Updated pings: Dock Street to Gardner Street NO VPN
Tracing route to gdst-term.core.dund.dscentral.co.uk
over a maximum of 30 hops:
  1    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  edst.core.dund.dscentral.co.uk
  2    <1 ms    <1 ms    <1 ms  edst-term.core.dund.dscentral.co.uk
  3    20 ms    20 ms    22 ms  lo0-plusnet.ptn-ag2.plus.net
  4    20 ms    22 ms    20 ms  ge0-0-0-204.ptn-gw02.plus.net
  5    21 ms    22 ms    21 ms  gi11-0-204.ptn-ag2.plus.net
  6    41 ms    44 ms    44 ms  gdst-term.core.dund.dscentral.co.uk
Now, the pings before were 40ms to first hop and 60ms to last at this time of day on the final hop. So commonly, I can take 20ms off all my ping times, which is what the results show.
But, if GS was fastpath, surely I wouldnt see the 40ms at last, since it was 60, take off the 20 for one connection, and you get 40? Am I wrong to think that 2 fastpath connections = 2 x latency discount?
I may be wrong!

Re: Ping times... again...

I think you probably are wrong in honesty.
Bear in mind your ping traffic practically needs a passport for it's travelling.  It's got to go down to London and then back to Scotland again.
44ms from London to Scotland is pretty decent.

Re: Ping times... again...

Ok, just thought I would ask, Im planning on swapping out the router at GS anyway. Might hurt my sync speed to do it, but its worth it.
Problem is, the router I have in there at the moment (a rubbish Netgear) isnt actually showing me if its interleaved or not! hence my confusion

Re: Ping times... again...

Netgears do show you if you are on fastpath or interleaved - you just have to telnet in to the router.
Probably the easiest is to download RouterStats

Re: Ping times... again...

Yep, my apologies, I am on fastpath! Sorry to all those who I doubted...
Pings are still sky high, Ive setup a trace to run every 5 mins, logging across the VPN and across the WAN.. I will collate the results tomorrow night. I got a little bothered when it took 28 seconds (not joking here) for a spoken word to get from my landline to my voip phone.. but only .5 second from voip to landline...

Sad
So much for that idea then.  I'll certainly be interested to see the results of your traces.
