I noticed earlier this week that after having a new line installed, and plusnet broadband also setup on that line, that I got internet connection without changing the password on the router by simply changing sockets.
Is there any reason why this would be frowned on by plusnet or BT?
Any problems it might cause?

not sure, but I know that you should not try two at once on the same line, some have tried two routers at the same time

The broadband at the PN end does not know which telephone line you are on, just that it is a PN broadband connection, so yes what you've noticed will occur. What you must not do is login on both lines with the same username. At whatever point you must make sure that the correct account is identified with the appropriate telephone number otherwise confusion will arise if one of them is ceased or has a fault.
