Parental controls on Technicolor router

I have been trying to block access to facebook at my home using the parental controls on the supplied technicolor router and had zero luck, i can block other sites and use the redirect for other sites but facebook seems to get around this, any suggestions please?
Thanks in advance

Re: Parental controls on Technicolor router

It's not a good idea to use the technicolor's parental controls -- there's a long standing bug in these router which reduce throughput when parental control is used.
A better option is to get a free opendns account and change the router to use opendns.
opendns:

Change tg582n routers dns settings:
http://npr.me.uk/telnet.html#dnsr10
Note the different commands for the R8 and R10 firmware.

Re: Parental controls on Technicolor router

I have had this working before, but having just done a couple of tests, I cannot block Facebook, Google or Yahoo.
I'm wondering if it is a firmware version issue?  I am now on 10.2.2.B - last time I played with this stuff I was on a prior version.

Re: Parental controls on Technicolor router

I gave up on this feature. I set it to block a couple of sites but bizzarly it stopped the Times app on our various tablets downloading the daily paper.  Huh
I'm now using a combination of opendns servers and the thusfar excellent free version of Norton Family safety.
