Packet loss...

Somehow overnight the low speed problem i was experiencing (see link below) has solved itself and i'm now getting around 4600kbps. Only downside is that now whenever i try and play online games, i get a ridiculously high ping and eventually get disconnected from the servers, if i even manage to join one in the first place...
I'm thinking its packet loss, and have run a line quality test on dslreports.com (see link to my results below)
Any ideas what has happened here?
Bt speed tester Results:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
    Your DSL connection rate: 5824 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4254 kbps

Results of dslreports.com packetloss test: http://www.dslreports.com/linequality/nil/2516188

Re: Packet loss...

Personally I wouldn't treat any test results that come from USA servers as accurately representing the reality of your connection, treat them more as "of academic interest".
The connection rate from the above BT speed test is below what your line should be capable of based on the information in your low speed problem thread, and this is why you won't be getting the throughput speeds of around 6M that your friend gets. Can you post the current Router ADSL Line stats (sync/connection rate, attenuation and Noise Margin). We won't be interested in any more BT speedtest results fro a while.
Did you carry out what I suggested in reply #51 & #52 in your low spead thread? you didn't respond - perhaps you could advise the outcome.

Re: Packet loss...

Sorry, I did cut off all the components, didn't seem to make a difference. The speed is fine as it is, I'm not bothered by that now at all now since it has miraculously doubled overnight. Unfortunately since this has happened I can no longer play online games because of extreme packet loss. Happens in all online games, on all servers, located in UK, Europe, US, doesn't matter...
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 5728 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 40.0 db 22.0 db
Noise Margin 11.1 db 21.0 db

In DNS ww.bbc.co.uk is a CNAME record pointing to www.bbc.net.uk :-
mike@lucy ~ $ nslookup www.bbc.co.uk
Server:        ::1
Address:        ::1#53
Non-authoritative answer:
www.bbc.co.uk ; canonical name = www.bbc.net.uk.

Re: Packet loss...

try this cmd.
ping -t bbc.co.uk
and to stop it
crtl + c
it keeps the ping going so you will get a better idea of packet loss

Re: Packet loss...

Those ping times look pretty good for an interleaved line, but keep posting some more as ASBO has suggested.
I'm guessing your issues are more related to some of the network problems that have been affecting a number of users.
As a Gamer, you'll probably be better off having interleaving turned off. If you can't find a setting for this at the member centre to get it turned off, you'll need to raise a ticket.
If your pings seem OK, it may then be best to start a thread on the specific game issue on the Gamers Forum board. ASBO and a few others over there I'm sure will be able to help. In the meantime, post some more pings.

I'm starting to think so, as using ping -t bbc.co.uk worked succesfully with not packet loss for about 10 minutes. Have raised a ticket and received a reply telling me that packet loss issues may be related to a problem with the network. Hopefully it'll be sorted soon.
Thanks for the advice, i'll raise a ticket to get interleaving turned off too.
Have included a screenshot from in game to give you an idea of the packet loss  Embarrassed

Re: Packet loss...

doesn't matter what country the server is in, happens whatever server i connect to, EU, US, UK, no difference...
and pinging the same servers out of game through command prompt doesn't give any packet loss......  Cry
