Packet loss tonight!!

Browsing tonight for me has been pretty terrible - so I just checked the packet loss graphs.  They're ALL showing major packed loss, more so than I've seen across the board.  I'm on 21CN which is THN-AG1 - and even that is showing a fair bit too.  In weeks gone by - we'd see almost none at all on that gateway, so this begs the questions - what's going on?Huh

Re: Packet loss tonight!!

The graph for THN-AG2 has only ever shown the drops for the LLU users (not the 21CN users). Now LLU has been shut down the graph has gone.
Fingers on buzzers with suggestions as to why a graph hasn't been produced for 21CN.
buzzzzzz....
Too embarrassing?

Re: Packet loss tonight!!

Actually no.
We do not have packet loss across our network on 21C before midnight (promise Jelv!).

Re: Packet loss tonight!!

I can believe that actually - the drops are all on the BT side.

Re: Packet loss tonight!!

yeah - it has to be BT, as some evenings are almost unusable, and others not so bad.  My exchange still shows green on the VPs so - it's pretty hard to get an honest answer really.

Re: Packet loss tonight!!

@dannykos, you sure it's packet loss you're suffering from? What are your traceroutes/pings/speedtests like when it's happening? Is this somethign that's started since you were moved onto ADSL2+ or has it only just cropped up recently?

Re: Packet loss tonight!!

@Bob - no, it's intermittent really…  I can be showing normal speedtest results, pings to bbc.co.uk in the 25-26ms range - but still things at times 8pm-> feel off.
Just did a trace:
traceroute to bbc.co.uk (212.58.224.138), 64 hops max, 40 byte packets
1  192.168.0.1 (192.168.0.1)  5.668 ms  1.029 ms  0.916 ms
2  lo0.plusnet.thn-ag2.plus.net (195.166.128.93)  61.834 ms  27.338 ms  30.265 ms
3  vl604.thn-gw1.plus.net (84.92.4.169)  161.521 ms  191.848 ms  196.199 ms
4  te2-3.thn-gw2.plus.net (212.159.1.58)  25.569 ms  26.011 ms  27.779 ms
5  rt0.thdo.bbc.co.uk (212.58.239.25)  25.706 ms  34.313 ms  26.122 ms
6  212.58.238.149 (212.58.238.149)  25.297 ms  26.183 ms  25.179 ms
that doesn't look great - but as I'm on a mac, we decided a while ago that the traces could be off?
It's really hard to put my finger on - but my gut tells me that if I were with another provider - I bet my speeds / browsing would be better…  grass is always greener eh Wink

Re: Packet loss tonight!!

We just added (yet another) segment.  There will be imbalance.
You might notice improvement if you reboot.
