PPPoE changes?

Re: PPPoE changes?

your router sync rate dropped by more than 60%  Shocked this has lowered your bRAS profile to 500. not sure if you want to regrade back to ADSL1 or try the new router once you've got it?
I'm just wondering why do you want to use PPPoE? This adds overhead and possibly increase the ping latency.

Re: PPPoE changes?

Ok, today my Draytek Vigor 120 turned up, kindly paid for by work - this has given me back the ability to use PPPoE (YAY!) Thanks Paul03 for the suggestion!
So, I'm back on my Cisco ASA 5505, but my speed in the last few days has plummeted.. It's circa 700Kb/s...
If that is to do with moving to ADSL2, then yeah, move me back to ADSL1 please asap!!!
Cheers!

Re: PPPoE changes?

What are you currently syncing at?
What is your IP Profile reported by the BT speedtest?

The regrade order should complete on the 22nd of Dec 2009. this will get the line back on ADSL1.

Re: PPPoE changes?

Thanks!
Back on the Draytek 2800 for now - was unusable on the other one...
Syncing at 518000
Download speed on BT speed tester is 227Kbps.
IP Profile is 350Kbps
This is awful! I've never been getting less than 1Mbps, and typically 1.5Mbps...
Hope the regrade fixes it!

Re: PPPoE changes?

@psykix
Try forcing your 2800 to use ADSL2 rather than ADSL2+. (Change the modulation on the Internet Access setup page.)
I'm on a long line and found the 2800 got *much* better speed using ADSL2 rather than ADSL2+!!!
It's worth a try at any rate until your line switches back to standard G.DMT!!

Re: PPPoE changes?

I've just tried that, and whilst it syncs at a higher speed, the real time speed is no different...
Fingers crossed that tomorrow I can go onto the Draytek Vigor 120 and my Cisco ASA 5505.

Re: PPPoE changes?

Your "real time speed" (throughput) will be lower as you've now probably got a low IP profile thanks to synching at a lower rate.
You'll probably have to wait 3 days for it to pick up again.  You can check your IP profile here or by running a BT speedtest (the PlusNet one *should* match BT's but can be 12 hours behind).
I suspect that, unless you are moved back to 20CN, ADSL1 will simply be forced over 21CN (which you could also do by setting your router to ADSL1) and you'll have to wait for the profile to lift.
For an explanation of IP profiles see here.  (Sorry if I'm telling you something you already know!!)

Re: PPPoE changes?

Something is definitely wrong - anyone got any ideas what I can test or check?
Download speedachieved during the test was - 189 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 400-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1472 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1250 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 18.52:24.34:57.14 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.
The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

Re: PPPoE changes?

Does your PN profile match BT's?  You can check here.
If it doesn't that may well be the cause of your problem and you can either wait for it to fall in line or see if one of the comms team will nudge it for you.

Re: PPPoE changes?

Aha!
No, PN profile is set to 350...
Doh... How long does it take to fall in line?

Re: PPPoE changes?

It gets updated twice a day IIRC.  It should be OK later on today.
If you want it moved more quickly you could try PMing Mand or one of the other PN staff on here or calling support.

Re: PPPoE changes?

Yes, thanks - speed is much better now and I'm using my Cisco ASA just like I used to be able to...
Will see how the speed goes over the next week.
Thanks for all the replies folks 🙂
