Re: PPPoE changes?

Hi psykix,
When did you call support? I've had a look at the account and from what I can see there you've definitely been moved to the 21CN service but at ADSL1 speeds. We placed the order on the 13th Nov and it'll have completed within a week of that, so might be a bit early to have caused this issue.
As per the radius logs Mark has sent you, there've been a lot of disconnections from the 1st through to the 5th though after the 5th it goes back to normal. I'm wondering if this could have been the cause.

Re: PPPoE changes?

I called support on the evening of 3rd December...
What do you mean when you say I'm on 21CN at ADSL1 speeds? Is that because of the distance?
I'll try again tonight and see how I get on!

Re: PPPoE changes?

I just tried changing the modem/router from PPPoA to PPPoE and it doesn't work... It just doesn't log in at all...
Are there any logs that someone could check to see if there is a problem? (I literally changed it about 2 or 3 min ago, and then changed it back again)
Ta!

Re: PPPoE changes?

That's because I changed it back to PPPoA!
Just tried PPPoE again, and it refuses to connect..
Does anyone have PPPoE auth working ok on 21CN?
Frustrating this!!!

Re: PPPoE changes?

I was in the early days. I was using a Netgear DM111P in bridge mode connected to a Linksys router running DD-WRT firmware. So a similar setup as yours but with an inferior router. Was using this setup for at least a month on 21CN, was one of the trialist, up to the end of July when a nearby electrical storm took the Netgear out amongst other electrical devices. So unfortunately not able to check to see if still working.

Re: PPPoE changes?

PPP log access on a Netgear router:
http://192.168.0.1/setup.cgi?todo=ppp_debug to turn it on
http://192.168.0.1/ppp_log to view it
Reboot the router to turn it off

Re: PPPoE changes?

Well that saves you spending any more time investigating different hardware. It looks like your exchange won't run PPPoE at all. As the failure is occurring way before it does any authentication to Plusnet it appears moving to another provider isn't an option either. The only slight possibility is there are options which the ISP can set when ordering the ADSL 2+ connection, does anyone know if whether PPPoE is allowed is one of them?

Re: PPPoE changes?

I think it's looking like a limitation of the MSAN installed that the exchange, but don't quote me on that.

Re: PPPoE changes?

Well it was working fine on PPPoE right up until 3rd December (i.e. last week!)...
So what have the buggers done?!
And more to the point, who can I shout at to get it working again???

Re: PPPoE changes?

My living room is now rapidly looking like a computer components store - I've managed to aquire a still sealed Draytek 2800G - which should blow the socks off the Netgear DG834GT I was using..
So.. failing getting PPPoE working, I'll have to use that - but oh how I would rather be able to use my Cisco ASA or my Netgear Prosafe!!
Oh.. and if I get any more kit the missus is likely to take something sharp to me....

Re: PPPoE changes?

All you could do is ask to be put back on to 20CN Max Premium, but that would I think involves some down time from what was said during the 21CN trials.

Re: PPPoE changes?

I don't understand why that would fix it - it seems I have been on 21CN since circa 20th November from an earlier post in this thread, and the problem only occurred on 3rd December..
I presume when I switched over that it would disconnect and reconnect.
Also, when I was testing earlier this evening, it very very briefly connected using PPPoE and then within 30 secs had dropped the connection again!
Sigh!!

Re: PPPoE changes?

Can someone advise how I raise this issue with BT (or would it be Vodafone, since the landline is provided by Vodafone through work)..
What would I be asking them to check?
Cheers..
