POP email

Anyone else having problems with getting email via POP?
Havent been able to get any since yesterday yet I can see emails on webmail.
My outlook settings havent changed and the test button works.
(I put a ticket in on this but as the average response time was over 6 hours - yes SIX -  thought i'd try here)

Re: POP email

Hiya - I've replied to your ticket.
It sounds like it might be an issue with Outlook itself rather than anything at our end.  I've tested using telnet and can't see any problems.

Re: POP email

Thanks for your reply James. I have 4 other accounts all working OK out of outlook.
All i get is error
"Receiving' reported error (0x8004210A) : 'The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP)."
I assume that means my machine was waiting for yours?

Re: POP email

Sounds like it's waiting for a response from our mail server. What incoming mail server address do you have set in Outlook? It should be mail.plus.net so if it's something different try changing it to this and it should work.

Re: POP email

OK found the problem.
Looking at my webmail there was an email with 10 photos attached. Deleted it from webmail and all of a sudden outlook sprung into life and downloaded all emails in the inbox.
Thanks

Re: POP email

Yes but that still doesn't mean that the server should stop responding photos or not!
At the end of the day it still sounds like the pop server has a glitch.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: POP email

If it happens again I'd suggest trying closing outlook, disable Avast and then restart/retry outlook.

Re: POP email

The symptoms (and cure) seem similar to one a friend experienced a year or two ago (on dial-up at the time). Thinking back, the problem then could have been that Outlook was timing out on the connection while trying to get the huge attachment, possibly (as jelv mentioned) because anti-virus was in the loop and hanging onto the fragments until it was happy with the complete attachment.
Having by-passed the problem it wasn't investigated further.
