PN IP profile check/change?

BTW speedchecker shows sync of 4.5M, IP profile of 3.5M but my line has been slow for days.
Can someone check the PN IP profile matches the BTW one pls?

You can check yourself, here - https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed - once you've logged in.

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

Thanks for that, didn't know you could check it.
Reckons it's 1.5M (so out of step with BTW IP profile).
How do I get it reset, or is it a case of 'hurry and up wait' Smiley
Generally, what is the point of IP profiles (a BT one and a PN one), surely any intelligent queuing system could just be using recent sync speed data? It's very frustrating to have a modem sync'd at 4.5M and be getting 1.5M.

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

I've manually changed this for you. Drop your broadband connection and re-connect to see the new speeds.
Post back if you have any problems.

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

Try live chat or phone in as there is apparently no delay at present
http://portal.plus.net/supportpages.html?a=212
The reason for the Plusnet profile - brief explanation - is that if the data arriving down your line comes faster than the line can handle the BT Profile drops random packages whereas the Plusnet one is more intelligent and drops non urgent packets preferentially so things which are time sensitive aren't impacted by downloads as an example

Edit - I see it has been picked up here

Sight of your router stats would confirm that your line is actually running optimally.

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

That might have something to do with the below

The burst of disconnections between 10am and 11am will have most likely caused your profile to drop again.
We need to get the drops sorted first and foremost. Was there any noise on the line or bad weather at that time this morning?

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

It's a recurring problem on my line - there's crackling sometimes, but not often enough that a BT engineer will see it when he visits. The line will disconnect and sync lower, eventually ending up with a crippled IP profile even when the line has gone silent again and sync is back up. I wait 3 days after the noisy line and we're running 5M+ again.
It also drops ADSL occasionally when the phone rings - but (again) not a repeatable fault.
I'll raise a call again and hope the line is noisy when he turns up. Last time this happened it took 9 visits from BT before they found a worn out cable in a tree nearby.
Router has been connected for 5 hours or so, at 4608 with a SNR of 8.5 - when the line runs well I get a sync of 5.0 - 5.5Mbps and actual download speed of around 450Kbytes/sec - good enough for iPlayer HD, etc

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

In that case you need to report an INTEMITTANT voice / noise fault, particularly the disconnects on inbound calls.  Until that is fixed, looking at the BB performance is completely futile.
If PN provide the phone service, use the phone faults link below.

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

It's been great since I last posted but it's crawling this morning.
BTW shows :
Download speed achieved during the test was - 0.1 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 0.05 Mbps-0.25 Mbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :4.42 Mbps(DOWN-STREAM), 0.45 Mbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 0.14 Mbps
Oddly enough, the line is very quiet but it was very crackly over the weekend. I'll raise a line fault and see what happens.

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

I've not found a problem on the line, but as you say, it's intermittent.
You're syncing at 4.4Mbit currently.
The delta report to us, at 7.21 this morning was 200k, hence the current speeds. We just need these to lift and you'll be OK (hopefully)

Re: PN IP profile check/change?

Thanks Tony,
I've raised a line fault, #103927416
The phone line was perfect for several hours yesterday afternoon, then went noisy for about an hour (causing several reboots) - I'm running a routerstats on it to record.
I've made calls today that were perfectly clear, and two that were very poor.
