On wrong 40/20 Profile before FTTC even been installed!

Ordered the Fibre Unlimited which includes the 80/20 profile.
I'm due for my installation on Monday 11th March.
However, I've seen on ticket (Question #66508894) that I've been set on WBC FTTC Annex A 10Mbit/s
I realise my estimated speeds are lower than than of 80/20, but should I not be set on the 80/20 profile first to see if the estimates are wrong?!?!?

Nope, that would mean lots of customers being provisioned on speeds their service might not support which would mean us having to do a lot of work (assuming the estimates are right, which to be fair they usually are) to regrade those connections back to 40/10 and address any issues the incorrect provision might have caused in the meantime.

Hi Adam.
Could you just explain,  how will we ever know then if I could get higher speeds if I was 80/20? If you don't put me on this profile to start with?
Confused.  Huh

You've said it yourself here

They're also below 40/10 speeds which is why we're not provisioning your lines on those speeds. To be specific the downstream estimate is 36mb and the upstream 6mb.
Us provisioning the speeds at 80/20 would not allow you to connect any faster. 40/10 isn't wrong in every case and is appropriate for yourself, I'm guessing you've picked up on posts where we've incorrectly provisioned customers on that product  and had to change that, however that's only for customers with an FTTC estimate above 40/10 speeds.
Hope that explains it better.
Adam

But again, doesn't really answer my point.
How will we know if I can get 42mb for example? It's over the 40/20 freshhold but I would be on the wrong profile but maxing at 40mb. I'm paying for Unlimited Fibre, with 80/20, so surely it makes sense to try first?

I agree here with what your saying my estimate was 56 but I'm in fact getting 65-72, So based on that you could be right that although initial estimates say 36 you could infact get 40+ if plusnet were to actually try.

As the estimate is below 40mb we have a good understanding that you probably won't.
If you receive 40mb on the nail then we could then look at upgrading to 80/20 but the estimate doesn't reflect that.
I understand what your saying but provisioning everyone on a product that could be the wrong one for some would create a high workload and extra costs to deal with I'm afraid.

There again.. it can also go the other way!

Re: On wrong 40/20 Profile before FTTC even been installed!

As Adam has said, it is purely based on the estimates given for your line. If your speeds are estimated below 40/10 then you will be put on the 40/10 profile.
If your speeds do happen to be higher after the installation has completed, we will happily move you onto the 80/20 product.
Given your estimates, we have placed your order onto the 40/10 profile as this coincides with the estimate given.

Thanks Chris.
That's fair enough. But how will I know if I can achieve higher speeds?  Wink
Should I ask the engineer?

Yeah that's your best bet in the first instance. If in doubt, after your install, give us a shout and we'll take a look for you.
We can't see anything until you're connected Smiley
