i have recently had a problem with my phone line with which meant everytime i picked up the phone i got a loud screeching and i could also hear and talk to two old ladies talking on the phone.
i have checked my plusnet connection setting and carried out a bt test and my line profile is down at 5000k
i have posted the result below.
what should i do to get it back up as my games are lagging and i pay for the premium gaming connection.
many thanks
Andy
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 5000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 4335 kbps
If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.
If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.
Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.

Gaming lag: 5000kbps is massively more than any game I've ever played would need, so your IP profile is not your lag problem (despite limiting your download speed).
Are your pings OK (i.e. small and stable)?

As for the gaming, lag is all about latency rather than throughput.
I'm tempted to imagine that ping time is a function of sync speed, not IP profile (but I'm guessing there).
Your actual ping times are the key here though. Do you know what your current (and previous) pings to the game server were like?
EDIT: forgot to add that IP profiles recover automagically - how long has it been since the line fix?

From those figures you don't currently have a problem. What's happened is that during your phone problems your ADSL line has synched below your normal speed and your profile has been reduced. Now your line problems have been fixed your synch is back up to 8128k ( the maximum) and your profile will eventually recover. But its going to take a few days for this to happen. That's how the DLM ( Dynamic Line Management ) works I'm afraid...

The check you don't have a latency issue do a few ping tests from a cmd prompt. Try ping bbc.co.uk and ping plus.net (without the www). Post the results.
Edit: Latency is not related to sync or profile, it's purely interleaving off/on (off for shortest times) and distance from the gateway.

Your 448kbps upstream speed means that the minimum possible time for the actual uploading of the ICMP ping packets is somewhere in the ballpark of 1.2ms (assuming no interleaving and also ignoring the details of the PPPoA stuff cos I'm very hazy about them!).
Then at slowish downstream sync speeds - let's say a dismal 1152kbps (like me :)) - the return path would take something like 0.5ms.
Speeding up the downstream sync to your depressingly high 8128kbps would take that return path down to well under 0.1ms.
So that'd mean that losing downstream sync speed really badly (to 1Mb levels) would add less than 0.5ms to your ping times.
(i.e. Chris was right :))

thanks for the replies, and sorry to moan about the speed, but when you have had it high, it becomes a bit obsessive to get it back there.
i know BF2 is a real hungry game for resource with loads of differnt players all interacting together like 6 people all in one helicopter and if you are a bit slower they dont like it cos it causes lag in the game and you also miss targets when shooting
i am still a kid
cheers

Please leave your router turned on
You've got a good connection speed so BT should amend your profile soon.
Then your speeds will be back to normal.
