Ok - Training period over (Ithink) here's the results. Not good

During the training period speeds were everywhere (as expected):  Peak was 1461 kbps, low around 250 kpbs.
Sync (on Speedtester) varied everywhere!  At the peak I think it was 2000-3000kpbs.  At the low 500kbps.
During this time my router has reported pretty stable results:
Sync:      2976-3104
Line att: 57 db
Noise:    6.3 db
Current router stats - connected to master socket and wireless link to my PC:
Sync:      3168
Line att: 57 db
Noise:    5.8 db
Speedtester (plus and BT) advise profile of 500kbps
Download speeds of 334kpbs
With Pipex (fixed line) I was getting very stable download speeds of 958kbps
With my line stats I was expecting to always acheive around 1.5mb downloads.  I'm therefore very surprised, and a bit miffed, that MAX is only 334kbps!!
What's the next step?
I don't really want to move to a fixed 1mg line if 1.5mg - 2mg can be acheived on MAX
I'm going away this weekend so will be leaving my router plugged into the master socket for 3 days.

That should sort it out (provided there are no resyncs) but let us know how it goes when you get back. If it's not uplifted we can at least look into why and if there's no reason for the profile not to have uplifted we can raise a fault for you.

Really?  So just those few .db's will make a difference?
Damn.
Don't really want my PC connected to the router wirelessly.  Will lose valuable pings!

From your sync rates it'll not matter whether you're connected wirelessly or not (actually it was probably coincidence that you got the higher rate with the wireless connection as it shouldn't make any difference to the line stats).
The stats you've posted should see you being assigned an IP profile of 2500 (sync rates between 2848 and 3392 are assigned a 2500 profile by BT - see this page for background).

oooo.
Now have a 2500kbps profile and downloading at 1700.
lol - dare I now risk moving the router back upstairs!
Think I'll wait and see what effect using connecting to it wirelessly will have on my gaming
