Oh Oh

Well after multiple engineer visits and improved broadband speed here we go again. Noisy line and broadband drop outs.
Last engineer suggested a lift and shift but this was refused.  Could this be the solution?
Sink speed is 16Mb with a download speed of 12+
Surely after numerous pair changes my line should be good.

Re: Oh Oh

I've just tested your phone line and it's not detected a fault.
If the fault is still evident after trying an alternative microfilter and connecting to your Test Socket, would you be able to raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net?

Re: Oh Oh

Chris I have some new super duper filters on order.  Meanwhile incoming calls again knock my broadband off.  Speed does not get effected. Disconnection is PPPOA down.
Curiously my upload snr is slowly going down.  Started at 12.5dB and now down to 6.9dB. Upload speed no change.
Nearly 12 months and I have not had a connection more than 9 days.
When the new filters come I will connect to the test socket again, not sure why I ever bother putting the front back on, and see what happens.

Hi HaresEar,
Just to be clear, when you dial 17070 option 2 is the phone line quiet?  If not, better filters are not going to be overly helpful.
Numerous pair changes...
That all depends upon the extent of the pair change.  Depending upon where you are and how you are wired, your d-side might be made up of several segments, with the very last bit never actually getting changed (for example your drop wire).  Quite often the d-side change is only to the bottom of your local pole.
There is the other possibility that all of the spare d-side pairs are all in a poor state of repair... but whilst they are still capable of delivering a phone service BTOR will not replace them.

Re: Oh Oh

Thanks for your input.  I have had 3 engineer visits who have all found external faults.  I have had d side pair changes and an E side change which did improve things.  All was good as usual after an engineer has had a fiddle but after about 2 weeks I am back to square one.  I had to buy new filters as I have tried all my supply.
There is noise when I dial 17070 option 2.  The last engineer suggested that the noise could be misleading and thought a lift and shift would be a possible cure but this was refused I assume by PN.
I now have to start again making sure once again my end is clean.
My contract is up in August so it will be time to go compare etc.
PS no spares on pole.

Hi,
Noise is noise and the engineer is wrong.  A lift and shift is a change on the data side of the exchange - after the voice / audible side has been split off - relating to the ADSL connection to the DSLAM.
No spares on pole says it all - that is where the issue is most likely to be.  Changing ISPs is not going to get the BTOR wire up your pole changed, which sounds as though what is going to be required to fix your problem.  Would you by any chance know if the pole cable is aluminium?  It is a good question to ask the next engineer.  Copper / Aluminium joints are bad news.  The issue with degraded infrastructure is that there can be dozens of joints all in need of remedial work.  One engineer finds the "worse" one, fixes it, things seem better and they leave.  A little while later, another joint goes...
Is your phone service with PlusNet?  If yes, this is good news - they have complete responsibility for getting BTOR to fix both voice and BB faults.

Re: Oh Oh

I have been made aware that part of my D side is aluminium which is as you say bad news.  There were only 2 spare in this cable so who knows if they are any good.
I am with PN.  To be fair PN have been quite good. It is just a pain starting a new ticket for the same issue as you have to go through all the motions again to prove it is not my kit.
Just before all this started I just bought a Asus dsl N55U router.  I will now have to wait until I get this issue sorted.
It mainly the inconvenience of it all I am fed up with.
I'll sew what happens when I fit the new filters and once agin on the test socket. Hey Ho.

Sadly this can be the way with BTOR - at worse they will do the least they can, at best they can only find a fault and fix it when the fault is manifest.  I had BTOR engineers visiting for 6+ months until they finally fixed every joint on the d-side, including completely replacing the drop wire.  However they did not replace the defective aluminium pole riser cable...
Lets see where PN take this...

Re: Oh Oh

Could have been BT maintenance - if you put your area code in here http://status.zen.co.uk/broadband/ do you see anything for this morning?

Re: Oh Oh

Thanks for that.  Turned up 3 faults, 10th, 14 and 15th May.  Last fault shows similar time to when things came back on line. Planned Maintenance 17-20 may.
Still got noise though.

Sorry for the delay Chris but I have been very busy. Phone is now very noisy and I can no longer put up with it.
I have raised a fault with the link you provided.
Phone and PN router plugged into test socket.
Latest stats.
