OK Service

In general, my PlusNet service is good... However, there are a few little issues im having. And i cant seem to get to the bottom of any. Firstly... My router drops the connect alot. It will loose connection to the internet, and i can do nothing for about a minute, when it picks it up again. Secondly, when the router is not dropping the connection i find games tend to have high latency, in my opinion anyway.
Being a gamer... Both of these issues are VERY annoying, as i can hardly raid on Warcraft when im getting d/c, or severe lag.
Any ideas?

Re: OK Service

This does sound as though you have a problem between your router and the exchange - the options are
Dodgy router, microfilter or cable
Internal wring problem
BT problem.
To take it a step further can you advise the the stats from your router - noise margin, attenuation and speeds (this is how to get them http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php )
Also is it possible to connect the router to the test socket - before doing it provide the stats please

Re: OK Service

Yes indeed.
Can you leave it connected there and see if the problem is fixed.
If it is we can start investigating your internal wiring.

Re: OK Service

Re: OK Service

In your first post you said that the router drops the connection a lot.
What do you mean by a lot.
If you can leave it connected there and see if you have the same problems.
One other thing - do you connect to your router by wireless or wire.
If it is by wireless it may be a problem between the router and the PC. The experts on this, not me, all seem to advise using a wired connection for gaming to reduce lag problems

Re: OK Service

I use a wired connection. I dont mean its constantly dropping the connection, but.. It does drop it a bit.. Maybe 5-10 times per day.

Re: OK Service

In which case leave it for at least 48 hours - if it still drops then it is either your router/filter/connector or the BT line.
If it doesn't drop it is something to do with your internal wiring.
When it drops is there anything else happening such as the phone ringing

Re: OK Service

No, phone has never rang.. I dont think. I had 1 d/c last night. Better than before, but still an issue.

Re: OK Service

It's still a good improvement.
Can you also please try using a different filter to ensure that that is not also adding to the problem?

Re: OK Service

Right, thanks.
The last step we need to go through before getting BT involved is to ensure that your router isn't causing the problem.
Do you have access to one to try using?  If not, we can send you a test router, but it'll take 2-3 days to arrive.
