Not impressed

after god know's how long on perfect 4.2 mbps speed's & usually syncing at over 5400 - 6000 kbps i have now logged on to find my router syncing at 4500 kbps and my connection status set at 3000 (usually 4500 or at the least 4000) so only getting download speeds of 2.9 mbps at the most, what could have caused to sudden drop in speeds etc... I've not down anything at home to affect my speeds btw.. ie: adding new phone's aletering line's etc. Angry

Re: Not impressed

Hi Jules,
It could be anything and could even be down to the fact there's been some rain over the weekend.  What sort of sync speeds are you seeing currently?  Are they back to wehat you usually get?  If so, your speed profile should bounce back to what it used to be.

Re: Not impressed

Hi Jules,
Looking at BTs logs, your sync speeds have deteriorated since August 6th.  According to them they haven't seen any synchronisation speeds in the region of 6000Kbps since then.  At least they haven't seen any that would cause your profile to increase.  There's been various decreases since then, with the last from last night being 3424Kbps.
I'd recommend trying from the test socket and also ensuring that you have tried using different filters.

Re: Not impressed

Hi Jules,
If you unscrew the face plate form your master socket, there is another socket in there on the bottom right.  This is called the test socket.
If you maintain your current connection speed, your profile should be increased to 4000Kbps within the next 3 days.

Re: Not impressed

You'll probably need to reboot your router for our profile changes to take affect.
You should be able to see from the BT Speedtester which profile you are on, depending on whether or not you can get it to work.

Re: Not impressed

No worries at all.
If you want me to, just give me a prod and I'll be able to see if any BT profile changes have been made.

Re: Not impressed

Quote
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 7616 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 30.0 db 18.0 db
Noise Margin 9.4 db 23.0 db

Shame it's not like that normally, why the dramatic change?

Re: Not impressed

I see similar on my own connection.
I've had as high as 7500Kbps (with my downstream attenuation of 45dB!) but reboots can give anything from 5.5-7.5Mbps.  It is however a fairly dramatic change.  I'd avoid rebooting your router for awhile if I were you Smiley

Re: Not impressed

but if it's plugged into the test socket, surely i can't leave it like that...hanging open with wires showing...especially as it's in the kitchen (thinking steam etc getting into it?)my

Re: Not impressed

The kitchen is a rather random place to have a master socket Smiley
It's up to you.  If you can live with the faceplate being removed, then go for it.  Unless you're talking about some fairly hefty amounts of gunk getting in there, then I'd leave it that way.  I'd definitely also recommend trying to see if you can get those kind of sync speeds with the faceplate attached.
