No wi-fi connection Technicolor 582

I am unable to connect to my router via wi-fi. I have tried with 2 different iPads and a laptop using windows7.
The laptop can connect to the router using the ethernet cable.
All 3 devices can connect to my son-in-laws BT Infinity router.
The error message I receive on the laptop is 'Wireless association failed because Windows did not receive any response from the wireless router or access point'.
Please advise how I can correct this.
