No network from 2am to 5pm

Hi,

The last month or so my broadband disconnects every night from around 2am to around 5am with no network found.

This is really getting annoying as I am paying for unlimited broadband and not getting the service I am paying for !

Please can anyone help ?

Thanks.

@arichards Welcome to the forums. That sounds extremely strange - unless BT are doing major work on your exchange.

I can check, if you post just your area code. Also, in case we need to look further, can you confirm whether you are on an ADSL or FTTC connection, please.

Re: No network from 2am to 5pm

When you say no network found, are you using Wi-Fi?  When it comes to finding the problem there is a big difference between losing Wi-Fi connection and losing your ADSL broadband connection - even though the end effect of not being able to connect to the internet is the same.

Hi John,

My area code is 01554 and my broadband is ADSL with 582n router.

Hi.

I am using Android tablet with Wi-Fi.

My settings show connected but no internet.

My TV is connected with Ethernet cable and that loses connection too.

Re: No network from 2am to 5pm

If both Wi-Fi and ethernet devices are reporting no internet but connected, then it seems it could be a DNS problem.

When the problem happens have you tried a traceroute to some IP address such as 8.8.8.8?

If you can access your router's stats when the problem happens, and post them here it is likely someone can interpret them.

OK, I can't see any ongoing BTOR work, so we can rule that out.

At least you are using a router that gives useful data, so we should wait and see what you can answer of @corringham 's questions but it is strange to be so predictable.

Sorry I don't know what tracer is as I'm not too tech savy !

Here's today's log.Screenshot_20210207-191608.png

Re: No network from 2am to 5pm

Tracert is a trace route which you run from a command prompt. If you still don't understand that post back and I'll try and make it simple.

Thanks for the logs - but there is nothing of any concern showing - except to note that you had connection to the internet from the start to the end of them - so I'm wondering if somewhere you (or someone else with access to your router) has set it to deny access to your device(s) foam 0200 to 0500?

Re: No network from 2am to 5pm

Yes, please explain tracer route and I'll give it a try.

Is the red (!) Showing in the log not causing the problem as it seems to coincide with losing network ?

Re: No network from 2am to 5pm

In reverse - the red (!) as you call them are not causing the issue - as you can see your router is still 'talking' to the outside world between those reports, which are merely telling you that it is doing its' job of preventing unwanted attempts at intrusion to your network.

To run a trace route, you ideally need a desktop/laptop computer - I've never tried it on my iPad, so can't really help if you only have a phone. There probably is a way, but I'm not quite with-it enough at the moment to go searching - maybe @corringham  has an idea?

Re: No network from 2am to 5pm

A log covering from about 0130 to as late as you can get would be useful - might show something happening just before you 'loose' it.
