No improvement on download speed

Although I'm now syncing at about 11 meg I see very little improvement on download speed on the speed testers over the old ADSL 1. Is PlusNet throttling the maximum line download speeds?
It may not be helped by my profile being stuck on 8000 when it should be 9000.

Re: No improvement on download speed

Hi George, I've bumped the profile up to 9000 for you, not sure why that didn't pick up. We're certainly not throttling any line speeds though.
Hope that helps,

Re: No improvement on download speed

Hiya,
By broadband line has been upgraded and although I am seeing higher sync speed and significantly improved upload speed, I see now difference whatsoever in download speed.

Re: No improvement on download speed

@bijelic
Let me have a look and see if there is anything I can find.
*edit*
Your account was still showing as on ADSL Max from our side, I've given it a kick and it's showing as ADSL2+ with a downstream profile of 5000 now. Hopefully that's more like what you were expecting.

Re: No improvement on download speed

Hi Chris,
Thanks for looking into this.  Just to give you a brief brakdown of my details - router is Draytek Vigor 2820n with latest stable firmware (3.3.0 UK), SNR margin is 9 to 10 and LOOP ATT. is 44 (i guess that is Attenuation Ratio).  I am about to take a look inside BT sockets in my house to see if anything there is amiss.

Re: No improvement on download speed

Hi Chris,
Yes, I do see the improvement now.  Upload speed over 700kb and download speed @ 4.5mb (from 370kb/3.4Mb respectively).  Considering I am relatively close to the exchange, is there a way to boost the speed a bit further?
Thanks in advance!

Apr 9, 21:32  6578 kbps (822kB/s) 372 kbps (46.5kB/s)
Data Rate(Kbps)
        20596                  888
Noise margin (dB)
        6.7                  13.5
Output power (dBm)
        12.0                  0.0
Attenuation (dB)

Re: No improvement on download speed

It looks as though I am now sorted, but my download speed is still only 6500kbps. Upload is running at 750kbps.
DownStream Connection Speed  14717 kbps
UpStream Connection Speed      855 kbps

Checked this evening via BT site:
    Your DSL connection rate: 13084 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  852 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 11000 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 6184 kbps

Re: No improvement on download speed

Hi
Looks like I've been upgraded to ADSL2+  today. My synch speed is up to 9980, with a much improved upload speed of 758, but not really much improvement in the download speed of 5880. Would you please check that my profile has been updated.
Thanks

Re: No improvement on download speed

to last 3 posters.
you need to wait for your ip profiles to reflect the new sync. what does your bt profile stand athttp://www.speedtester.bt.com/
i was switched on the 8th of this month and few days later i had i ticket opened and closed on my account saying PN had set my pn profile to 21000. i only have 3mb as iam along way from exchange. i am not 100% certain but i think plusnet have started to fix new trial members pn profiles to this value permanently as the 21cn profile update systems didn't seem to work 100% and jameseh was having to do it manually alot of the times

attention is this the routers way of letting you know how long your line is. mine is 51db down  around 3.6km in line length
try this site and enter your atten it will give a gd est of what your line should be capable off.
Wink tip bookmark kitz site as its got alot of info on how broadband works. very useful site

Re: No improvement on download speed

What is the make and model of the modem you are using? Does it support ADSL2+?  As a running mode of G.DMT is for standard ADSL.

Draytek Vigor 2820n.  Fully ADSL2+.
If not G.DMT, which Modulation I need to set it to, please?
