No apparent change in speeds

Went on to ADSL+2 on Friday and, as advised in a text message, closed router connections and powered it down for 5 minutes or so. Powered back up and re-booted but synch speeds are unchanged (see below).  I've rebooted each morning since but stats remain constant. Up to about a month ago I had a rock solid 6 to 6.5mb synch speed but this dropped following line drop-outs and hasn’t recovered despite no connection loses.

Re: No apparent change in speeds

Personally, I'd give it a full week before worrying too much.
It'll take the DLM a few days to get used to you first.  See if you see any improvement in the next few days - I'd be hopeful it would get a decent bump in the right direction given how your line behaved in the past.

Thanks James, I'll keep re-booting very morning....and hope (or is that 'have faith?')!

Re: No apparent change in speeds

Hi James,
I’ve been on the trial since 23rd October but still haven’t noticed any change whatsoever, other than upstream doesn’t reach the previous speed of 448. I have powered down the rooter for 5 minutes or so a couple of times and re-booted each morning. Any advice?

Yeah OK......  The DLM will be Ok if it decides it likes you. If it dosnt, be prepared for a fight with it......
After a few weeks, I am back to pre ADSL2+ levels on ADSL2+!!

Re: No apparent change in speeds

Sound like bad experience for you penfold. I was hoping for a response from Plusnet staff...anyone out there or are they all done the pub celebrating with James? Wink

Re:No apparent change in speeds

I suspect it's probably down to the noise margin.
If the DLM likes you more than Penfold, then it should drop the SNR if your line remains stable.

Re: No apparent change in speeds

has the upstream bein capped?
21cn dlm can be a right pig but is good  most the time on the upstream

Re: No apparent change in speeds

Thanks both
I'm not aware of any capping....is this something that +net would do automatically?

Re:No apparent change in speeds

Yes.
By default, since the official launch of ADSL2+ we cap upstream speeds because it can improve (sometimes not, sometimes barely and sometimes by a considerable margin) downstream sync speeds.
If you want it uncapping, raise a ticket and we can do this for you.

Re: No apparent change in speeds

Thanks James.........Jeez, arn't half gonna miss your help around here  Sad
tbh I'm not at all fussed about upstream speed, especially if it can help downstream. Should I just keep re-booting every morning and hope for improvement?  I haven't had any breaks in connection other than done by me so line in stable

Yep, that sounds like a sensible plan.

Re: No apparent change in speeds

Not sure if the legend that is James has left the building or not but.....
Saw the post below and wondered if this 28 day period whereby an increased SNR, owing to a drop in connection, will revert to a previous level is true of ADSL+2?
Rob
If James has gone, many thanks for all the help in the past; with your attitude you just can't fail in your new job

Re: No apparent change in speeds

Yep - Was referring to where SNR has increased.
However, the potential decrease is normally done on line errors rather than uptime.
