At any given moment in the universe many things happen. Coincidence is a matter of how close these events are in space, time and relationship.

Have you checked the 'operation mode' ? , page 18 , it needs to be xDSL modem router mode

Wireless Router Mode: In this mode, the device enables multi-users to share Internet via Ethernet WAN (EWAN) using its interchangeable LAN4/WAN port and share it wirelessly at 300Mbps wireless 802.11n speeds.
I set to xDSL Modem Router Mode and still won't syncing! I am getting frustrated and annoyed now. Probably the worse set up in my own experience.

and are you using the RJ11 lead that came with the router ? I've seen different routers use different pairs of the cable , so you often need to use the exact cable that came with the router.

It's all a bad idea imho, stick with the HG612 and add a normal ethernet router that does PPPoE. At this rate, when vectoring comes, those people with their own random VDSL modems will screw over the rest of us

I assume the TP-Link has similar options to the Technicolour to restrict access for certain devices? Finding that very useful to block kids ipods/kindles at night when they should be sleeping!

Got a bit spooked by 'rtho782' comments about the vectoring issue, something to worry about ?
Cheers for all your advice so far
