Good evening,
Since moving over to plusnet from BT. I have noticed I get slower download speeds. during the day I would normally hit around 350/400kb on downloads. I now only hit around 250kb on downloads.
I have also noticed my ping in game is higher than usual.
When the switch-over was meant to happen it didn't. So I assumed BT were having problems. so I called them for god knows how long.. Then decided I call PlusNET and low and behold it didn't activate when it should of.
During this time.. from getting it activate I swapped over routers I couple of times. As I thought it was this causing the problem.
I been reading up on SNR quite abit.. I was sub 10dB now I'm at 15.3dB
Would this of had a big enough effect to cause the above problems. I have been reading that a SNR reset can fix the problem. is this correct?
Any advise you can give?
Cheers,
Lawrence

Welcome to the forums.
Posting the full information mentioned in this post would help members to provide informed comment. However increased target SNR margin could account for the speed difference you are seeing. The increased ping might be due to the DLM applying interleaving to stabilise the line and/or reduce transmission errors.
If the line is stable staff might be willing to try a line reset. They should be here tomorrow to take a look.

Thanks David for the welcome and information.
please find below information that may help.
System Up Time 10:05:16
Port Status TxPkts RxPkts Collisions Tx B/s Rx B/s Up Time
WAN PPPoA 2620965 3773865 0 4730 11086 10:03:21
LAN 10M/100M 2937927 2182850 0 96648 5270 10:05:12
WLAN 11M/54M/300M 0 0 0 0 0 10:04:42
ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 2624 kbps 448 kbps
Line Attenuation 51.0 db 30.0 db
Noise Margin 15.4 db 23.0 db
may be worth having interleaving removed
Cheers,
Lawrence

Look at it this way - a lower SNR means a faster connection but also one that's more susceptible to interference and therefore more likely to drop connection.
A 3dB decrease in SNR gives an increase of approx. 800kb in sync speed, and vice versa.
Hope that helps
