New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

My current line speed is showing as 22Mb yet my download speed is showing 2.5Mb which is less than i was getting with ADSL+
Fibre installed yesterday.
Do I need to raise a call or do something else?

Run a BT speed test with the computer connected in the way I advised here and let me know what happens.

Ok. Please can I have a Service ID needed to complete the test?
Thanks

You don't need one - just put in the phone number

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

you downloading at a rate of like 2100kb + a sec ? (which would be a line of around 21mb + )
or you downloading at 232kb sec (or so) which is just over 2mb ?

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

Remember that the speed you are going to get is also dependant on the site/server you are downloading from and the type of traffic it's classed as. Take a look here for information on the traffic management speeds: http://www.plus.net/support/broadband/speed_guide/download_speeds.shtml

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

I cannot use http://speedtester.bt.com/ as recommended as it required a service ID and phone number will not work for this field.
I'd have thought that Plusnet would have realised this before sending me to that site.
http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk/ does work however and responds with the following....
Download Speed: 22206 kbps (2.78MB/s)
Upload speed:1616 kbps (202kB/s)
After reading these forums it appears that Plusnet should have carried our a reset of my line once I had fibre installed which I am guessing has not happened.

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

Put your telephone number in the field labelled Telephone Number, leave the Service ID blank!
My broadbandspeed does not tell us the sync speeds and IP Profile.

Obvious question is whats your IP profile?  PN might not have had the Ok from BT yet to change it seeing as you just got installed yesterday

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

If fibre Ben installed yesterday. No wonder you have slower speed. It can take a few days for the line to go up to higher speed. Do not ever turn off the modem or router, that causes the speed to drop. Mine started off at 5 mbps by the end of the day was 12mb but end of the next day it was 38mb. Give it a chance.

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

Also be aware that fibre can be slower than cheaper plusnet adsl products due to shaping. Compare products here http://usergroup.plus.net/prodcomp1.php.

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

23698 Kbps is a 22mb connection, I cant believe you were getting a faster speed with ADSL?
Is it just confusion between 2.5 megabit connection and a download rate of 2.5 megabytes per second?
All the tests are showing quite a healthy connection, 2.78MB is roughly 22Mb

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

he probably means the 'anything speed' is around 2mb.......
If he's on Fibre Value (like i am until 5 days time), then you'll find between 8am to Midnight, your line is 2mb........ (ok, so web browsing runs at 22mb or faster), but anything else runs at 2mb....
So makes sense what he's saying Smiley

Re: New to fibre but download speeds slower than ADSL

oh wow, so only a usable connection of 2mb during the evening? That puts me off wanting fibre if it ever turns up in my exchange.
