New fibre install - router usable ports?

I have a simple question regarding my new fibre install.
I use all four ports on my adsl2 router at the moment, will I have four ports on the fibre router or is one used by the modem?? If so what are my options?

welcome to the forums grex
one of the ports will be used to link the modem to the router as you state. if you need more you'll have to invest in a switch, if you only want 100mb ethernet you can get something pretty cheap like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-Unmanaged-Desktop-TL-SF1005D-Plastic/dp/B000FNFSPY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF...

Re: New fibre install - router usable ports?

Not what I wanted to here! But needs must, it's just yet another mains socket needed behind the tv! That's now a total,of 13 sockets needed!
Thanks for the reply.
(Just I case anybody wonders why 13. Tv, sky, av amp, sub woofer, wdtv media player, nas hard drive, wii, ps3, ps3 remote sensor, modem, router, switch, harmony remote charger)

Re: New fibre install - router usable ports?

Time for someone to invent wireless mains instead of wired then!  Wink

Re: New fibre install - router usable ports?

Could I use something like this instead of the standard router?
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TL-WR841N-300Mbps-Wireless-Router/dp/B001FWYGJS/ref=sr_1_1?s=compute...
I'd have 4 ports then.

Re: New fibre install - router usable ports?

I was also slightly disappointed by this as I used to use 4 connections before Plusnet.
4 is like the standard these days.
The BT engineer who visited told me it was an issue under discussion with Plusnet. Don't know how true that is.
No big deal though, one of my devices rarely had use, so it's not a big issue for me as of yet. I'm happy.

Must admit I don't use the smart functions on tv and I'll just leave this out for now.
