New connection

Just gone live today with Plusnet, can I expect speeds to increase as the line settles in?
Just did a speed test
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3779087690
To the same server with BT a couple of days back

Thanks

Re: New connection

i would expect you to get the same you received with BT the slower speed will be down to DLM (Dynamic Line Management) this will monitor you line over the next 10-14 days and adjust your profile accordingly so try to avoid turning of your modem/Router as DLM may see this as a problem with your line and can take weeks to gain the lost speed back

Re: New connection

Salvo71,
If the switch of FTTC from BT to PlusNET causes a DLM reset (CRT can you advise please) then the line will run with an open profile for 48 hours (not the widely believed 10+ days) after which a profile will be established for the line.  That profile will be passed on to PlusNET to establish the DATA speed for the line, which can be found here - https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed
This speed should be the same as that reported above - 60Mbps.  You might need to drop the PPP session on the router to get the full speed.

Superusers are not staff, but they do have a direct line of communication into the business in order to raise issues, concerns and feedback from the community.

Re: New connection

Thanks for the replies guys.
Townman I've used that link and see the following:
Estimated line speed:
43Mb (Download speed could vary depending on line conditions. Estimates are the maximum speeds that your phone line can support. These speeds are dependent on the package you choose.) - Checked on 2014-08-29 22:37:47
Current line speed:
78 Mb
The estimated speed is inline with the speedtest I'm getting, but surely it should be more if my current speed/sync speed is 78Mb!!!
Time to do something or just wait another 24-48 hours to see what happens?

My uptime is showing: 0 days, 15:32:47 which takes the time back to the exact time I first connected the router, so no dropouts.
Thanks

Re: New connection

If you chose the speed test server because it's one near you, you've picked the wrong one. All the Plusnet gateways are in London which is where the Plusnet connections to the rest of the internet are made. Following the wires, the nearest servers to you are therefore around London.
I also note that the BT speed test was taken at a quieter time than the ones you've done with Plusnet.

Re: New connection

All my BT ones hit the same sort of speed no matter day or night or which server I used
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3769605154
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3769614730
http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3776603998
And Plusnet done now at 10.33 on a Tuesday morning isn't what i'd expect to be peak time!

Down by around 20%

Re: New connection

Are these tests wired/wireless?
If you run the BT Speed Test http://speedtest.btwholesale.com/ and click on Further Diagnostics, what's your IP Profile?

Re: New connection

Wired, straight from the main socket to the openreach modem-router-PC all within 2 feet of each other.
IP Profile:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 42.51 Mbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 32.53 Mbps-46.48 Mbps .
Additional Information:
IP Profile for your line is - 46.48 Mbps
Upload speed achieved during the test was - 10.27Mbps
Additional Information:
Upstream Rate IP profile on your line is - 20 Mbps

Re: New connection

So your line sync speed has been adjusted to provide stability. You won't be able to download faster than your IP Profile (46.48Mbps).
When your line is setup for the first time, it syncs at its fastest possible speed. But sometimes it will be unstable, so DLM will adjust it to provide stability.

Re: New connection

It sounds like your line is erroring a lot - it's worth raising a fault http://faults.plus.net so a member of the fault's team can pick it up.

Re: New connection

Thought I'd update, after putting in a ticket:
Our tests have found a fault with your broadband service.
You've given us all the information we need about your problem, we'll raise this to our supplier for investigation.
