I have just had my connection enabled and, at the moment, I am not living in the house but pop in to reset the router once a day during the 10-day line testing period. I also check the speed each day and it comes up between 1.5Mb and 2Mb. I was told I could expect 5-6 but I know the first 10 days does fluctuate. Is this likely to be the best I can expect, will it improve on its own or is there something I or PN can do?
I can't provide any more info right now (like the sync speed or whatever it is) but if someone can tell me how to get it off the router, I'll look tonight.

Anyway, both the router stats and a BT Speed Test would be illuminating.

Do I access the Thompson/Speedtouch TG585v7 by just going to the gateway IP address?

But I'm sat on a brand new ( 6 weeks anyway ) B/B connection to Plusnet land. When this virgin circuit started - it was almost immediately working at 6M
But then we are only about 300 meters from the exchange.

Naah - I just have three short cuts in Firefox - one to my old Speedtouch 585 v6, one to my Netgear DG834G v4 and one to enable debug mode on the Netgear which you need if you want to get any sensible information.

Ok so I got the router stats and they are as follows:
Bandwith: 448 / 8128
Output: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation: 8.5 / 16.0
SN Margin: 23.0 / 9.0
That seems all good but the speed test I did came back at 1501Kbps
This may be due to a dodgy speed tester as I was using my phone and so had to find one that didn't use JVM plus it was over WiFi though I was right next to the router. I will try again tomorrow with ethernet and the proper BT speed checker.

That's definitely the one to run, and please quote all the result,

What speed does https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate say?
Please run the BT test http://speedtester.bt.com/ and post back the full results. It can be rather fickle so it may take a few attempts to get it to run.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5334 kbps
I will do it again over ethernet later (have to wait 3 hours!) but i'm pretty happy with that.

If any individual PC's perform significantly slower look to wireless issues and/or TCP/RWIN tuning.
