New Wireless Router for Christmas

Don't know if anyone can help us out there...
I bought a new wireless router so my daughter can shut herself in her bedroom and use my laptop (while enabling me to get on with Football Manager 2008!). Problem is that while my supplier apparently set it up with my PlusNet username and password, I can't get it to work on either the laptop or my desktop. Even worse, the shop is closed until 7th Jan ... result, one irratable daughter!!
Any ideas on what I could be doing wrong ... assuming the shop set it up correctly in the first place?
Cheers.

Re: New Wireless Router for Christmas

I'll try to help as I have a Belkin...
First of all and most importantly, is the router synchronising with the exchange and establishing a connection with PN?
We need to try and get a wired connection working first before we look at the wireless.
Can you establish a connection between your PC and your router by typing this address into the address bar of your internet browser: http://192.168.0.1
> Router Status -> "Show Statistics" Button
Default username = admin, password = password
Can you cut and paste what is showing from that stats page please? either by PM or here..

Sorry to ask so many questions, but I'm sure you'll appreciate why..
Roger.

The first thing I'd check is the user name.  Make sure the "@freeonline.net" or equivalent is included.  I know I've gotten that wrong before.

Try username=username@plusdsl.net
Password=Your PlusNet password

The routers ADSL login is shown under connection settings -> connection details on the portal.

If all else fails run the Setup Wizard...It doesn't get much simpler.

Yes! I've recommended Netgear to friends as the set-up is amazingly easy.
Just log into the router and follow the wizard. It works out the connection settings for itself and all you'll need to type in is xxxxx@plusdsl.net (i.e. your username and appropriate bit at the end if you're not plusnet) and your log-in password.
It really is a piece of cake.

Thanks for all your contributions chaps. I'll have another play and see what happens ... and Roger, I'll answer your questions if it still doesn't work out for me.
I'll let you know how I get on.

Re: New Wireless Router for Christmas

Cracked it!
Can't remember which bit did the trick but it think I was intially trying to get on with my username and password alone (ie. without the @asdl.... bit. Anyway, with grateful thanks to you all, my daughter is now happy so I'm happy!
Happy New Year to you all and thanks again.
