The service engineer I called hinted that PN may be getting a new router to bring it inline with general expectations. If this is correct will a free update be available or an existing customer discount?
Hope it has better wi-fi and dual ban.

The Hub One VDSL router has recently been launched for new Fibre customers and it has dual band WiFi. There has been no recent change to the router supplied for ADSL customers.

When it comes to ADSL routers, provided you got yours from Plusnet at least 12 months ago, you can always get another one free of charge (paying p&p only) provided you stay another 12 months. I seem to recall a fee of £40 is levied if you leave Plusnet before the end of the 12 month period. I assume a similar arrangement is in place for Fibre routers.
You don't have to use a Plusnet supplied router as they allow you to use your own if you want to.
