New Modem/Router question

Ok, I'm about to pick up of these up tomorrow, will this work with my BBYW Option 2 package?

Or have I got to look for something different?

Re: New Modem/Router question

Just take the promise of "300Mbps Wireless" with a large pinch of NaCl.

Re: New Modem/Router question

Is there any reason as to why you want that specific router?

Re: New Modem/Router question

Yeah, that's already noted.  It's just that I've just purchased a new notebook and would like it to work around the house, and when I get my PS3 that'll be located downstairs with the big TV (main PC is upstairs).
That modem/router is what a majority of friends use and they recommended it as a pretty decent bit of kit.  Plus it's got some good reviews in various magazine/online tests.

Re: New Modem/Router question

It should be fine - they're as good as any and better than some I could mention.
I second the comment re. 300mbps wireless networking.  It ain't gonna happen, but you'll get pretty decent results from it nonetheless.
It's a bit like a kid buying his first Vauxhall Corsa and believing the 130mph marking on the speedometer is achievable.  Yes it is, but only by being towed behind a Ferrari.  Wink

Re: New Modem/Router question

Ideally your PS3 should be cabled into the router if possible, few reports of issues (increased lag etc) when using wireless. I certainly find that having it wired makes for a better a better connection and all my friends have switched to using the ethernet port for the same reason. Just something to think about when you get it and experience any issues.

Re: New Modem/Router question

That'll be impossible!  The Modem/Router is located upstairs at the other end of the house next to the PC and phone socket.  The PS3 is going into the room with the big Hi-Def TV which is downstairs.  I wouldn't even like to think about the cost ofthe  cabling to reach that distance.

Re: New Modem/Router question

Don't forget to setup at least a WPA-PSK password to protect your wireless router

A few pounds, that's all. (e.g. 50 metre RJ45/UTP patch cable £35 at www.datacommsdirect.co.uk )
Finding a route for it will be your biggest problem.

Re: New Modem/Router question

The issue with the wireless is the added latency, I doubt that powerline adapters would be much better that wireless in those terms.

Re: New Modem/Router question

We've got a PS3 running off Powerline adaptors and it seems to work ok.
I tried wireless but was getting poor download speeds due to a marginal signal.
I'm not sure how to measure the latency though.
Bob.
