Hi,
I'm a new customer to Plusnet having moved from Sky, who's service was fine but more expensive, and I've just ditched their TV service too.
The line has swapped over at roughly the same speed 10715/1271 and a ping between 10ms to 15ms, but the pings the thing, throughout the day, it will suddenly drop to a crawl:
C:\Users\Maff>ping google.co.uk -t Pinging google.co.uk [216.58.213.99] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2104ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2405ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2463ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2226ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2576ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2590ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2475ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2350ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2586ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2252ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2673ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2620ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2486ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2112ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2352ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2559ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2588ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2417ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2558ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2511ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2628ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2396ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2639ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2107ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=304ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=11ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=784ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=1228ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2491ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2561ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2639ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2389ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2584ms TTL=54 Reply from 216.58.213.99: bytes=32 time=2648ms TTL=54 Ping statistics for 216.58.213.99: Packets: Sent = 38, Received = 38, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 11ms, Maximum = 2673ms, Average = 2009ms Control-C ^C C:\Users\Maff>
I appreciate there is a period at the start of 10 days (and it's only been 8 so far) while the best speed for the line is worked out, but I would have thought that would show up more in the form of occasional disconnects rather than this.
Tracert shows the issue outside my network (as far as I can tell).:
C:\Users\Maff>tracert google.co.uk Tracing route to google.co.uk [216.58.213.99] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 1 ms <1 ms 1 ms dsldevice.lan [192.168.0.1] 2 * * * Request timed out. 3 1869 ms * * 137.hiper04.sheff.dial.plus.net.uk [195.166.143.137] 4 2343 ms 2549 ms 973 ms be3-3104.psb-ir01.plus.net [195.166.143.136] 5 29 ms 40 ms 164 ms 195.99.125.134 6 456 ms 744 ms 1435 ms peer6-hu0-11-0-1.telehouse.ukcore.bt.net [195.99.127.13] 7 2236 ms 2429 ms 2558 ms 195.99.126.185 8 2414 ms 2659 ms 2476 ms 216.239.54.247 9 2326 ms 2432 ms 2226 ms 216.239.57.121 10 2364 ms 2228 ms 1909 ms lhr25s02-in-f3.1e100.net [216.58.213.99] Trace complete.
None of the [-Censored-] pings result in any disconnections and there is no crackle on the line which to my mind suggests a network rather than line issue.
If it helps the issue seems to be more a daytime thing as the kids complain about not being able to watch youtube without buffering but by the time I switch Netflix on in the evenings 20:00ish onward it plays 1080p fine.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Maff

Sorry to hear you're having issues.
Google's servers will rate-limit ping requests if you are continuously pinging them them so it may be better to try a dedicated server like pingbox1.thinkbroadband.com

Thanks, I spoke to support in the mean time and my SNR was wrong for the line length, a little bit of fiddling at their end and all seems fine pings averaging 10-11ms spiking to 100ms much more in range.
Worth knowing about googles rate limit though, cheers,
