New Customer - Excellent Service - Question regarding wireless adapter !

Hi,
I would just like to thank all the staff at Plusnet, the change over from my previous broadband provider has been really easy and I'm really happy with the broadband speeds. I was previously getting 1.7 meg with normal broadband, but have changed to Plusnet Fibre Optic broadband and am now getting a scortching 50-60 meg!!! 
I was just wondering if someone could help me. I'm get excellent speeds on my iPhones, iPad, Sky On Demand and Xbox 360, all well over 40 meg. But my desktop computer, which is hooked up to the Internet via a D link Wireless Adapter is only giving me a consistent 5 meg, I've checked the specifications for the wireless adapter and it states its wireless N and good for 100 meg?  Can anyone explain why? Does it need the settings looking at? Or just changing?
I have also hooked a laptop up to the Internet via the Ethernet cable and the BT Wholesale speed test came back as 61 meg?
