New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Hello,
My connection has been live for a fair few days and I have a consistent speed of 6.7mbps but I believe my line should be capable of much more.
Based on the router information I think I have been provisioned on to 8meg circuit(?) but my exchange is ADSL2+ 21cn enabled.  (G.992.1, should 992.5 for ADSL2+ I believe)

Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.2 / 19.7
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 14.0 / 23.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 12.0 / 10.8

Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 20 / -
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 5 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 2 / 0
HEC Errors (Up/Down): - / 0

I am right in my thinking and can I be moved to a ADSL2+ circuit?

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Looks like it - you're showing uncapped upstream. Can you post the estimated line speed from the BT DSL Checker?
They normally only provide you on ADSL Max profiles if the estimate is low.

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

According to the kitz calculator you should be syncing at 19168 with a profile of 16906 based on your attenuation figure.
Has the router been set to automatically select the mode or is it set to ADSL1?
The uptime is only showing as 33 minutes, are you turning the router off at night / when you're not using it? If so it's possible that DLM has kicked in thinking it is a bad line.

DLM manages your line the same way DRM manages your rights.
Look at all the pretty graphs! (now with uptime logging!)

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Thank you for the replies guys.  Line speed estimate is as follows:
Telephone Number 0140***** on Exchange HONITON is served by Cabinet 5
Featured Products

High Low High Low
FTTC Range A (Clean) 80 79.9 20 19.9 -- Available
FTTC Range B (Impacted) 80 71.3 20 17.9 -- Available

WBC ADSL 2+ Up to 14.5 -- 9.5 to 16 Available
WBC ADSL 2+ Annex M Up to 14.5 Up to 1 9.5 to 16 Available
ADSL Max Up to 8 -- 7 to 8 Available

In regards to the router settings, it seems rather limited.  I have the Technicolor 582n (and the Thomson tg585 v7 and v8 as spares), but I think it is set to automatic.  I have tested all 3 with the same results.  Any why to change it?
I had been testing the 3 different routers before I posted thats why I only had an uptime of 33 mins  Smiley

Hi kdc85,
I've just placed an order to move you from ADSL to ADSL2, you should notice the change overnight tonight.

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Kcd85,
Welcome to PlusNET and the forums.  It is great to find a first time poster arriving with the right information and a pleasant enquiring approach.  PN's Digital Care Team (DCT) have got the modulation change request through, so please watch out for a change and resynch.  This will put you into a new 10 day training period so you might see a few line drops whilst it settles down.
Can you please post updated router stats, as your US us showing quite a few errors for 34 minutes of operation.

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Hi Townman,
thank you for welcome!
it appears the change has gone though (now showing as G.992.5) although my still getting a solid 6.6 to 6.7 Mbps download - as its started a new training period should I expect this speed to go up soon?

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Download is limited by this https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed which should sort itself out but in any case the staff on here can manually bounce it
However that may not be until Monday
Guess who is on the ball

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Hi kdc85,
I've just updated that for you. If you log into your router and hit 'Disconnect' and 'Connect' again, that should sort things for you.

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Hi Kevin,
That sounds like an improvement, can you please post your current router stats.
At the moment your synch speed is a little less than your line attenuation might suggest as being achievable.  Your data speed is circa 1Mbps slower than the posted synch speed would suggest your IP profile should be.  As I noted before, you need to keep an eye on the error counts.  Please take a look at the speed issues post at the top of this forum and follow the link to the BTw speed / IP profile test and again check the current speed in the PN portal using the link provided by OldJim above.
Exactly how is your router connected to the phone line please?  Consider extensions, type of extension wiring, number of extensions, plugged in phones and nte5 type - see link in speed issues post.  You will get the best performance if the router is plugged into the master socket and there are no extensions.  Is the phone line quiet - dial 17070 option 2.

Re: New Connection ADSL or ADSL 2+

Hi Townman and everyone else Smiley
latest router stats:
DSL Connection
Link Information
Uptime: 0 days, 9:40:43
DSL Type: ITU-T G.992.5
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,147 / 16,403
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/GB]: 135.90 / 2.62
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.7 / 0.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 15.2 / 29.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 6.3 / 2.9
System Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / ----
Chipset Vendor ID (Local/Remote): BDCM / IFTN
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 18 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 2 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): -
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 626 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 19 / 418
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 26 / 2,493

Connection speed has dropped back down to 6.9Mbps at some point this after. The info in the link OldJim provided is:
Telephone number:
0140xxxxxxx
Phone exchange:
HONITON
Estimated line speed:
2.0Mb (Download speed could vary depending on line conditions. Estimates are the maximum speeds that your phone line can support. These speeds are dependent on the package you choose.) - Checked on 2014-05-23 17:08:45
Current line speed:
7.1 Mb
So not sure if it is just a short dip, or a wider issue.
Set up wise we use the master socket, its the split type with the test socket behind, and has the Telewest 'T' on it.  Line seems good, cannot hear anything to suggest a noisy line.
Regards
Kevin

Hi Kevin,
What an improvement!  It looks as though the DLM is trying to run your line at 3dB which is fast-low-level flying.  However your PN profile is not aligned to the current synch rate.  Can you please obtain your current BT IP by running a BTw speed test / diagnostic test.
