Re: New BTWholesale Speedtester Beta

I bet most people use the BT speed tester just to see what their profile is.

Re: New BTWholesale Speedtester Beta

Didn't work for me using Firefox (6.02) - the Plugin Container started using up lots of CPU time and Firefox became unresponsive.
However, it did work using IE.

Re: New BTWholesale Speedtester Beta

PlusComUK - you want to get that upstream uncapped - ask plusnet to removed your upload restriction and what is your downstream line attenuation and snr and your closer to 16 meg pretty good, you are more likely closer to the exchange!

Re: New BTWholesale Speedtester Beta

It would be of no benefit to me, I upload ⬆ virtually nothing except ... small amount ↑ to website data, and a few emails, I already enquired ages ago.
Best advice from Plusnet Techie was to leave well alone as it may slow down my download ⬇⬇⬇ speed.
I am 462 metres from the exchange  ☖♖←←←←←←←←←←←←←←←←←←☏.
These are my constant night-time ☾ and day-time ☼ download speeds for this billing period, I am quite happy  Cool to leave well alone.
The graph show a previous month (July) !!

Re: New BTWholesale Speedtester Beta

Has anyone found out if this is going to replace the existing tester?
Are BT planning to prevent us finding out what our IP profile is?

Oh you are so suspicious! :o, as am I. Judging from a very long thread on FTTC over in Kitz letting EUs have evidence is taboo. Raise a fault and you'll just be told, "that's it: take it or leave it"! Roll_eyes
No one has to agree with my opinion, but in the time I have left a miracle would be nice.

I spoke to some of the guys from the team behind this when they were in the office a month or two back. It was certainly my understanding from the meetings I attended then that, if anything, this would be a front-end that would still allow some means (whether integrated or otherwise) to run tests more accustomed to the current implementation.

I explained in some detail at the time why visibility of the IP Profile was imperative, so I'd be *very* disappointed if this were to happen.
Anyway, here's the copy from the Wholesale briefing. Please keep any feedback coming and I'll make sure it's relayed to the powers that be.
[quote author="BT Wholesale"]We would like to invite you to aid in the testing of the Beta version of our new Broadband Performance Tester for 20C Broadband, Wholesale Broadband Connect (WBC) ADSL/ADSL2+ and WBC Fibre to the Cabinet (FTTC).
Based on feedback received from our customers, and as part of our continued efforts to improve customer experience, we have been investigating a series of improvements to the current BTW Speedtester.
Some of these features that will be made available to you, as part of the Beta trial, are:

  • Shorter test times

  • Improved user interface

  • Future capability to test higher than 40Mbit/s services (i.e. Fibre To The Premises (FTTP)):

(The Beta version will be limited to circuits with a line synchronisation under 40Mbit/s, with an aspiration to include an FTTP performance testing capability in a later version)
The Beta version will be made available from 10th September 2011.  Access to this tester will be via an additional link on the standard Performance Tester website - http://www.speedtester.bt.com
If you are interested in helping us test and provide feedback on the new Beta version of our Performance Tester, please register your interest with your CRM/Account Manager.

The relevant reply, I think, is this one. Only 21 pages if you want to read the saga in full.
