Nasty popups on Android when connected to Wifi

Getting nasty, difficult to get out of pop ups taking over often when using my Android phone connected to my home PlusNet wifi, similiar to those mentioned on this thread:

Anything I can do about this?

Happens a couple of times a day and its a real pain in the bum.

Run a malware/virus scanner on the phone, check the dns & home page settings on the web app. Try a different app like firefox or chrome for Android.
