My router stats - Can I squeeze anything more out of my line?

Is there any possibility that I could sync higher given the stats from my Speedtouch ST585 router.
Link Information

Uptime: 1 day, 0:43:49
Modulation: G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 1,568
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [GB/GB]: 3.07 / 6.66
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 16.0
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31.5 / 63.5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 13.0 / 6.5
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / TSTC
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 4,590,356
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 1,080
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 944
At one stage I was getting 1728Kbps which meant I got a higher sync speed however that was a while back so only getting round to looking at things that I might be able to do to improve things, if anything.
I'm running Windows Vista x64.

You are quite a way from your exchange so I'd be thinking probably not.
Can you describe the phone wiring? e.g. is the router plugged into the master socket or extension, does every phone point have a filter.
You might achieve some improvement using an iPlate or filtered faceplate if you don't already have one.

Re: My router stats - Can I squeeze anything more out of my line?

I have the router connected directly to the master socket and I fitted a NTE5 (or something like that) faceplate to the master socket which means that filters aren't required on any other extensions. The faceplate was purchased from ADSL nation about 4/5 years ago so don't know if there has been any improvements in technology since then.

Re: My router stats - Can I squeeze anything more out of my line?

I'm not sure that you'll get much more speed with a downstream attenuation of 63.5dB unfortunately, and I'd be surprised if a new NTE5 would make that much difference either. You could probably have a look round and see if there are any routers better suited to long lines - some are better than others, I've heard that BTs business hub (the 2700 HGV) works well - but I couldn't make any promises.
Hope that helps,
James

I'd also be inclined to say that I think that's your lot - sorry!

Thanks  - I guessed as much. I'll stick with my current legacy Premier 1 package in that case.

Keep an eye on the Fibre to the cabinet project - therein lies your higher speeds

Re: My router stats - Can I squeeze anything more out of my line?

I don't know if your router supports "adjusting" the SNR. If your line is reasonably clean you might be able to eke out the extra 150 or so by tweaking the routers SNR down. My Netgear DG834GT runs very reliably with 4.5 dB SNR giving me only 1 or 2 Error seconds per 15 minutes. It all gets a bit more flaky at night when the SNR drops to around 2-3dB and the error rates rise a bit - but then I'm usually in bed by then. Last night saw error seconds at 35-40 per 15 minutes when the SNR dropped to 2dB. If your router supports it running Routerstats will give you some clues.
Even if you can't adjust the SNR, using routerstats, understanding the SNR variation on your line and rebooting when it is at its best might squeeze out the bit of speed you want.
