My ping is erratic.

I have only just connected to PN today so that might be why, but ingame (GunZ online) my ping with all other players is extremly erratic.
Some people that I have a ping of 40 with, will spike up to 800+ and keep changing way to much it's unbearable to play.

Hello Ray, welcome to PN and the forums.
If (and only if) you have switched your modem/router off since you posted, you may find the situation different now (different gateway, some changes to the network etc). You may not want to switch the modem/router off and lose sync, in which case have a look for a Connect/Disconnect button on you modem/router interface. If you are new to ADSL broadband and not yet been connected for 10days, I would reboot your router before 3pm or after 9am (ie well into daylight) to get the best sync then leave it alone unless you have problems.
If you are having any speed or connection problems please post back some modem/router ADSL line stats. If you are still having problems with your ping, try doing a tracert to bbc.co.uk from the command prompt and post the results here.

Well since my last post, my ping went stable for a while and I have been playing with it since then.
But now today when I went to play it is like before again with me having insane pings with everyone ingame.
(the people with low pings aren't stable, it spikes like crazy.)

Hi Ray,
At least there is consistency there in the tracert's. The figures suggest that "Interleaving" is turned on on your connection. As a gamer you will want this off the reduce the lag.
Could you do a few  ping bbc.co.uk  from the command prompt and post them, just to confirm the situation.
As the Comms team don't work w/e they would not be able to address this until Monday. You could try phoning the CSC at Sheffield when they are very quiet and they may be able to deal with this straight away. It usually takes upto 24hrs for the order to be activated by BTw.
After posting your pings, and getting this issue addressed, you may find better help on such topics and the game on the Gamers Forum. Look out for ASBO DOG, he'll point you the right way (along with a few others).

The ping time you get to the PN gateway (2nd hop) depends on the idstance from london you are am just south of sheffield and get the following on fastpath

The linestats are fine by the way, virtually no errors (error count so so low), with interleaving off you should sync at 8128.

I ran the game with wireshark for 2 minutes, and again it is in crazy ping mode:

Some of the packets I are 0xa0, but some are also 0x40 and 0x20

hum the wireshark looks pretty good, shall wait and see what fastpath gives you before trying some other stuff.
i take it you running over ethernet to the router and not wireless, if wireless you could do with disabling thw WZC service to stop windows causing lag spikes when auto searching for routers.
an app that does this for you http://www.martin-majowski.de/wlanoptimizer/ you want to make sure disable background scan is ticked on this app

I am still getting huge pings. Not allways though..
Earlier after college I came onto gunz and allmost everyone in a room of 16 people had 1000 - 2000 ping, and a couple had normal pings. (around 50)
So I reset my router and logged on again and it was fine this time, everyone ingame had normal pings 20-150.. I played for a few hours and then the pings went crazy again alternating from 50 ping to 400 to 1000 etc.
I'm not using wireless and I have been playing this game for 2 years with the same router/computer without this problem. :X
Also I think the removed interleaving has taken effect now because when my ping wasn't going crazy I had 20 ping with a few europeans.

if your pinging around 25ms and lower to bbc.co.uk you will be on fastpath.
your router may report the interleaving status as interleaved or fastpath
how does this game operate. ie are you host? as its strange that every ones pings are going through the roof at the same time. if its your line to fault you must be acting as the server (host) to effect every ones ping
could you post another tracert to bbc.co.uk now you belive your on fastpath and lets see what your ping to the gateway is like now
