My fibre speed has dropped off a cliff, unacceptable.

I used to get around 73mb down and 19mb up, in my first month as a fibre customer, the last few week however i noticed the speed suddenly fall off a cliff. Slowing to a crawl of 10 to 12 mb down and 15mb UP.

At first I thought maybe someone else in the house is hogging the bandwidth. I then decided to dig a little deeper.
so did the BT checker:

What is going on?
Why am I paying for FIBRE and getting less than ADSL? Will I be reimbursed pro rata for denial of acceptable service?

Re: My fibre speed has dropped off a cliff, unacceptable.

What do you reckon Jim?
Intermittent fault, caused the DLM to go ape-sheet due to excess errors or noise on the line
Banded the line to a low speed on the download ......and there it will sit until the fault is found/cleared and DLM reset.
Reasonable guess for a Saturday evening?

As the IP profile is reported as 77.44Mbps non of them which was why I asked about the Plusnet profile as it just might have received a spurious update

Yup, looks to be a spurious update, we received an update for 13.1 on our side.
I've updated it manually to match the IP profile now.

Note that it may be necessary to disconnect/connect the router using the web interface to activate the new profile

Hi Scott,
Good to see you back on the forums, especially on a Saturday night.
Spurious update from BTOR's systems?  This profile update more applicable to (the previous?) ADSL service coming through for a fibre service seems to be a reoccurring theme. Has anyone looked at why?

I am not aware of a tutorial but if you go to http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/bb/?be=0&l0=2&l1=-1 you should see something like this and just click on disconnect then after it has connect

Re: My fibre speed has dropped off a cliff, unacceptable.

The profile update was due to a resync on the line (poor sync event), could have been due to a substantial amount of errors on the line. As the speeds were low at the time the profile snatched the information it was quite right to take the action it did.
The sync rate has now returned to normal, but due to the excessive amount of errors that have been evident on the line over the past few days, I would certainly raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net so that we can get this looked into.

No problem.
Your line has the potential to do the same again, I'd advise raising a fault report. It's completely up to you though.

Re: My fibre speed has dropped off a cliff, unacceptable.

You were right chris, it has happened again, speeds have dropped off a cliff. Could you reset it again to the correct profile and raise the fault on my behalf?

Hi,
Are you able to run another speed test like you did previously. Everything appears fine from this side, the speed profile is set correctly.
