My TG582n just got itself in a tizzy after about 46 days running

All of a sudden Routerstats shows this and the router is terribly slow to respond
There is nothing showing in the logs or on the BQM and browsing and speed tests are fine
I won't be doing a reboot tonight as it would cripple my speed

My TG582n just got itself in a tizzy after about 46 days running

First thing I noticed was that routerstats wasn't reporting - see picture
Browsing and speed tests were fine
Accessing the router via the usual system was horribly slow both the initial connection and subsequently changing pages. There was nothing showing on the router log
Then it rebooted itself
Any thoughts on what could have happened
I only lost about 150kbps which could have been a lot worse

It's a long shot but you could try "clearing the event log".

is it over heating?

Re: My TG582n just got itself in a tizzy after about 46 days running

That auto clears at least as far as the web dispay shows
However I know that using telnet you can see a lot more
However as it just did  a warm kernal reboot I can't check it
No it isn't overheating - it is just slightly warm to the touch

Re: My TG582n just got itself in a tizzy after about 46 days running

Suggested that before I saw the post saying it had rebooted.
AFAIK the clear log file in the GUI does clear everything whereas a reboot does not always clear all the log.
I've never experienced this myself but I have seen reports / claims that a large log file slows the routers response times. It would have been interesting to see if clearing the log fixed your issue.

Re: My TG582n just got itself in a tizzy after about 46 days running

I came to the conclusion that these routers do need a reboot, I think i've had an uptime of around 60 days, but my router was getting slow at that point. I would be intrested in some tests on this though, like clearing the log etc. What is the command just for the reference ?
My log seems to pop back after clearing mine from the GUI ?

syslog msgbuf flush
The GUI command clears the file in my TG672, surprised it's not the same with the TG582n.

Re: My TG582n just got itself in a tizzy after about 46 days running

Jim,
What you are seeing in RouterStats is a known issue.  According to the author, you should never see tone data on the summary tab; doing so indicates that RS has lost internal messages.  This can be fixed by stopping & starting the RS capture.
What do the router error counts look like?  I have seen high FEC rates make a router very unresponsive.

I tried that several times - closed and then opened Routerstats
Error rates weren't a problem otherwise it would have shown up in the speed tests or the BQM

Re: My TG582n just got itself in a tizzy after about 46 days running

Jim,
I've seen RS cough every few minutes then suddenly work with out issue for days.  I have no firm evidence, but I suspect that it is down to responsiveness of the router's admin interfaces both http & telnet.

Re: My TG582n just got itself in a tizzy after about 46 days running

Thinking back - I have noticed the router doing warm kernel restarts every month or so and I could never see why it should so I suspect that something internal to the router firmware may be the cause
Must get round to updating the firmware
