There is nothing showing in the logs or on the BQM and browsing and speed tests are fine
I won't be doing a reboot tonight as it would cripple my speed

Browsing and speed tests were fine
Accessing the router via the usual system was horribly slow both the initial connection and subsequently changing pages. There was nothing showing on the router log
Then it rebooted itself
Any thoughts on what could have happened
I only lost about 150kbps which could have been a lot worse

However I know that using telnet you can see a lot more
However as it just did a warm kernal reboot I can't check it
No it isn't overheating - it is just slightly warm to the touch

AFAIK the clear log file in the GUI does clear everything whereas a reboot does not always clear all the log.
I've never experienced this myself but I have seen reports / claims that a large log file slows the routers response times. It would have been interesting to see if clearing the log fixed your issue.

The GUI command clears the file in my TG672, surprised it's not the same with the TG582n.

What you are seeing in RouterStats is a known issue. According to the author, you should never see tone data on the summary tab; doing so indicates that RS has lost internal messages. This can be fixed by stopping & starting the RS capture.
What do the router error counts look like? I have seen high FEC rates make a router very unresponsive.

Error rates weren't a problem otherwise it would have shown up in the speed tests or the BQM

I've seen RS cough every few minutes then suddenly work with out issue for days. I have no firm evidence, but I suspect that it is down to responsiveness of the router's admin interfaces both http & telnet.
