My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

Any idea what could be going on?  I thought at first it was just business at Christmas, but it doesn't get any better at any time of the day!  It has reached the point where I cannot even watch a YouTube video.  It's almost like going back to dial-up again.
I have been with Plusnet for nearly 8 years - and it has never been this slow.
According to the BT speed test my current stats are:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 129 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1536 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
Any idea what this means?  If I go through Support the system wants me to buy new micro-filters, routers etc... I am not spending money until I know there is a problem and I am pretty sure these are all good.  The figures above suggest I should be getting 1.5Mb download - not 129Kbit.
Interestingly my upload speeds are faster - around 300Kbps.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Wayne

My last months usage is under 6GB.  I have been higher with this with no issues before.

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

Hi rowley96,
[quote=rowley96] IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
This result from your speedtest shows that it is not to do with your package, as that would not affect the BT profile. It now seems to be up to 1250 on our side as well as BT so you should be seeing that now.

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

Hi there,
I'm sorry to say that is not the case at my end!  My speed tonight is even slower...
Download speedachieved during the test was - 87 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1536 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

HI rowley96,
It seems there is an inconsistency between the DSLAM and the B-RAS. I'll try resetting it first to see if that works and if not we'll have to raise a fault. I'll let you know when I have more information.

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

Hi rowley96,
I think the reset has worked but if you can run a BT speed test we'll be able to see if it has improved your throughput.

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

Thanks Jojo.  I will run a test when I get home and post the results.

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

Results below:
Download speedachieved during the test was - 69 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-250 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :2656 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 135 Kbps
Still slow, and still has the low IP Profile - but the DSL connection rate itself has increased.
Any thoughts?

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

HI rowley96,
The sync rate has gone up because we've forced the SNR down. It certainly seems like the profile is stuck. I will raise a ticket over to our faults team for them with details of the profile inconsistency rather than get you to raise a fault.

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

Well it worked for a few months...
I have the same problem as I did in January... line speeds of 240K download & 376K upload.  I can't play any video and web sites are very slow.  It has been like this since Saturday.  I can't seem to use the BT speed checker any more - they have changed it and it no longer works for me (Safari on a Mac).
Could you check the line again please - I had a definite fault last time.
Thanks,
Wayne

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

HI Wayne,
Having just tested your line I can see that both the PN & BT profiles are set to 1750k. A couple of suggestions... Have a look at our speed help guide. How is your kit set up? Are you using any extension cables/sockets? Have you tried the test socket? Are you getting these results wireless or via ethernet cable?

Re: My Broadband speed has been bad since Christmas

HI Wayne
I too have found my line speed has dropped since Christmas, in fact during the last few days it has dropped even more, i am now at the mind blowing speeed of 350kb yet my up speed is at 380kb.
Today the whole service went down for a while so i changed line filter as i keep spares, (it went off just before i got to this web site)
I recived notification from plus net that a new system 21CN is now available & i can get  uo to 8 megs  i don't think so in this one horse village
