Multiple 'user tried to login' messages in router event log

I have a laptop running Windows XP Home and a desktop running Windows 7 both connected to my TG585v7 router by ethernet.
When I boot the laptop first, I get 1 login event which is expected. On booting the desktop second, I get no further login events recorded on the router.
When I boot the desktop first, I get a login event recorded about every 30 seconds. These continue even after I boot the laptop.
Anyone any idea why I get this bizarre report?

Is that address the one you get from the attached devices as it doesn't look as though it should be

It's a Thomson TG585v7 as detailed in my first post.  Wink

Not running routerstats or anything like that.
Don't know whether it gives any clues but I have Norton Internet Security on the laptop and McAfee on the desktop.

Not really. I know that network discovery is switched off on the desktop. SWMBO is using the desktop at the moment so when it's available, I'll see what else is running and may be causing this strange event log.

It's very strange behaviour. The desktop was switched off before I got to it. On restarting it, the regular login events no longer occur.  Undecided
