More intermittant internet woes :(

Hi everyone
I've been reading this topic about intermittant connection woes & it sounds very much like my problem
http://community.plus.net/forum/index.php/topic,104014.0.html
for the last weekand a half I've gettting random, intermittant connection problems, where it looks like my router is seeing the exchange, but no internet is avaliable
I've logged a fault with PN & they have done some tests (attached I hope!)
the latest is that they want interleaving turned on & I have to wait 5 days to see if it works
My worry is that its nothing to do with any interleaving on or off.
BT are busy messing around with the exchange and some cabinets, installing fibre & adsl2 around and about.  several friends have had problems in the last 2 weeks, same as me, and all have been resolved by engineer re-vsiting the exchange.
Its a real pain having an unstable connection.  when its up its fine and fast around 4-5Mbps, but it doesnt just slow down, it stops for hours at a time.
any ideas anyone, or how I can bump up the ineviatable engineer visit?
Thanks

Re: More intermittant internet woes :(

Do the times of all those reconnections correspond with when you've seen the BT people working? Normal advice is to leave the router on permanently, but seeing that graph, if you start to see drops and the BT men are at work I'd be tempted to turn it off until they go away. Repeated drops in a short space of time result in the exchange deliberately restricting your speed to try and make it more stable.

Re: More intermittant internet woes :(

I cant see the exchange or cabinet from the house, but there have been BT and OR vans around for a couple of weeks it seems.
Anyway, engineer is now booked for tomorrow, so lets see what they find.
I'm hoping they will go visit the other end of my wires first!

Re: More intermittant internet woes :(

Hi
Well it looks like what ever happened seems to have solved the connection dropouts.  the line seems to be stable for 24 hours now & counting.
A question though, after the line has been un-Banded (if thats a word!) and the SNR has been reset, i'm now at about half the connection speed I was before.
one of the messages from PN about the problem suggested that it would be a better speed than before.
Anyone know how I can either up it back to how it was, or better if possible?
Thanks

Re: More intermittant internet woes :(

Are you saying your sync speed is half what it was before or the speed you see when running tests?

Re: More intermittant internet woes :(

Hi
The speed we get running tests isnt as fast as it used to be.
More connection problems yesterday at what RouterStats was saying was a connection over 6, then dropped to sub 4 and was stable
All the while this was going on, the reported noise was zero.
I didnt think the noise should be actually zero should it?

Re: More intermittant internet woes :(

You need to tell us:
  • Your current router stats (sync speed, noise margin and attenuation)
  • The IP Profile reported by a BT diagnostic speed test
  • Your current line speed reported here: https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate
When the noise margin drops to zero I'd expect your line to drop and the resync to be at a lower speed thereby restoring a healthy noise margin - that's the way it's supposed to work. Some routers will hang on to a low margin for longer and providing you are not getting loads of errors that's OK.

    @gunsmoke
Just to make you aware after you updated your ticket around midnight to say that you've reconnected your old router the connection has been solid since then (over 9 hrs) that's the longest we've seen for a while.
