Got to admire your optimism!
Seriously though, don't speak too soon as I'm sure this really isn't going to have a lot of negative impact at all...

It's beyond me why anyone would depend on Plusnet for email.

So I know that all the e-mails on Yahoo should be coming in via Plus.net and yet nothing has been received.
My forwarding service is now warning my of delays as follows (edited to remove specific addresses)
This message was created automatically by mail delivery software.
A message that you sent has not yet been delivered to one or more of its
recipients after more than 24 hours on the queue on badger.xxx.org.
The message identifier is: 1IdQum-0008Bj-Ub
The date of the message is: Thu, 4 Oct 2007 06:26:34 -0700 (PDT)
The subject of the message is: Fw: Truth About House Prices | Five Ways To Avoid Tax
The subject of the message is: Fw: Truth About House Prices | Five Ways To Avoid Tax
The address to which the message has not yet been delivered is as follows
xxxx@fxxx.plus.com
(ultimately generated from ron@xxx.org)
Delay reason: SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection:
host mx.last.plus.net [212.159.11.64]: 451 Connection temporarily rejected:
89.16.177.63 has no reverse DNS
Plus net say not many people affected - doesn't help me!!

Quote from: PJ Did this just start today? Whereabouts are the e-mails coming from? Are e-mails coming through from UK based ISP's or well known providers (like GMail)?
It's possible it might be related to this.
Have you tried e-mailing yourself?
Probably, ALL of my emails are filtered by an external antispam provider (they do an excellent job), and then forwarded to a box that that I collect from, rDNS doesn't work on then so that they can't get spam attacked!!!
Sound like time to change provider ......
This is crazy.
</rant> it is not a fix, do do it without proper notification has to be irresponsible to say the least.

Not have an rDNS will not stop them getting "spam attacked"
Not having an rDNS is against RFC1033 ( http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1033 ) which your spam providers should be following.
In short, your spam provider should have an rDNS entry for their delivering server.
Running a mail delivery server without an rDNS entry is irresponsible, to say the least.

I may have it wrong, can you check them then for me please , here is a header from an email earlier this week:

217.72.243.41 PTR record: uk.advascan.com. [TTL 14400s] [A=217.72.243.40] *ERROR* A record for uk.advascan.com. does not point back to original.
That's probably why it doesn't work!

The server above should be fine. Whilst the forward and reverse DNS entries don't match, it does have rDNS configured:
C:\Users\Bobby>nslookup 217.72.243.41
Server: pth-cdns01.plus.net
Address: 212.159.13.49:53
Name: uk.advascan.com

Are Plusnet mail servers refusing connections? I've received about 25% of my normal mail today. Mail sent to my own address has not been delivered and mail which I know was sent by a Shan friend (Myanmar/Burma) is also missing. (Myanmar is partially connected to the outside world again.)
Thank you.

They definitely appear to be accepting connections and we're not aware of any issues:
C:\Users\Bobby>telnet mx.core.plus.net 25
220 mx.core.plus.net ESMTP Exim Sat, 06 Oct 2007 19:57:29 +0100

Does mail sent to your address get bounced back to the sender? Is it mail that's being sent from a specific address that's not getting through? Have you checked your 'Spam' folder?

Mail is not bounced back as far as I can tell.
Various addresses appear to give problems.
I check my spam folder at times like this.... and I'm bound to say that your Spam filtering does a pretty good job. Only the odd false positive... which is why I've started using PlusNet for my mail once again.
The tricky bit is that this problem appears to be intermittent.

Yes, I know it's only 20 minutes, but it is a " PlusNet - Thank you for your question" email.
Header shows a delay - probably by EXIM:
