Midnight Packet Loss

Looking at the BB Usage Graphs I notice that there is a sharp increase in packet loss at midnight (at least for the past 2 nights). This also coincides with a sharp fall of total trafic as shown in the BB Traffic by usage graph.
Is something going on on the network?
Or is it the effect of many P2P's opening up to take advantage of the 'Free' period and the profiling over-corrects for the rush?

You've hit the nail right on the head.
At midnight, a lot of scheduled P2P downloads all kick off simultaneously.
This causes a surge in traffic across all the centrals, which is highlighted by the steep increase in packet loss on the graphs.
Once all the connections are established, and data is flowing then the traffic settles down to a more consistent level.

It's also probably worth noting that the packet drops are in the bronze queue - any voip/gaming/time sensitive applications are prioritised in such a way that they don't suffer any appreciable packet loss at this time.

As well as the P2P kicking in, there is also the removal / relaxation of the peak-time management applied to customers on legacy products such as Broadband Premier.
