Metronet Reverse DNS Entries

Hello All - my first post here so please be gentle  Cool
I have asked this on the Metronet forum but thought I might get a wider view here
I just raised a ticket on this for one account but since have checked a number of our services and get some strange results.
Are the reverse DNS entries still built atomatically in the form:
nnn-nnn-nnn-nnn."loging name".adsl.metronet.co.uk?
Because some of ours relate to other login names - strange
Any ideas?

Re: Metronet Reverse DNS Entries

This is indeed the case, however some are not updated automatcally were an IP has been reassigned due to natural churn.
Raise a ticket (noted as done), let have the ticket ID and we will ensure it goes to the right people.

Re: Metronet Reverse DNS Entries

Thank you for the quick reply.
Ticket: 22188430 is the one I raised earlier.
I will raise additional tickets for the other services.

Can I ask why some are not updated automatically? If PN know that this is a problem should not the Operating Procedures be updated to stop this?
I had the same problem with a PN account over a year ago so things have not changed.

Re: Metronet Reverse DNS Entries

I think in general the only time this happens is where someone has set a custom rDNS record. At the moment if an IP with a custom rDNS record is reassigned to someone else the new record has to be set manually changed. It's on the to do list to get this automated.

Re: Metronet Reverse DNS Entries

It seems to be happening on all new services I setup.
The original ticket has never been sucessfully sorted.
Makes my firewall logs look very strange Sad

Re: Metronet Reverse DNS Entries

Hi there,
I've asked our Networks Team to bpick up on this and hopefully you'll get a satisfactory answer soon.  I've also reopened the issue about rDNS entries not being reset.
