Massive speed drop

I am a plusnet customer who had my line upgraded to max dsl a couple of months ago. Since the initial week my dl speed was about 170kb/s.
This week the speed has been about 12kb/s. I have not changed anything on my setup, no viruses etc.

This was today:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
    DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM)  2656 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 57 kbps

Thursday:
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1750 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 1920 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 82 kbps

Modem settings: Netgear 834dg
ADSL Link                Downstream  Upstream
Connection Speed 2656 kbps     448 kbps
Line Attenuation   40 db           10.5 db
Noise Margin             10 db               25 db

Anyone help me? I have not changed any settings

Re: Massive speed drop

Looking at that information I'm wondering if there is something else going on in the background gobbling up your bandwidth. Have you checked your usage recently. Have you started using any P2P applications recently such as BBC's iPlayer?

Re: Massive speed drop

Wouldn't you do better by asking PlusNet to put you on a fixed 2Mbit connection?

Re: Massive speed drop

axisofevil that is a complete red herring. If you look at his current sync speed and IP profile his actual speed achieved is way below that - so there is something else going on as the connection itself looks OK(ish). Also the speed he is getting is below the level I'd expect if it was exchange contention.

Re: Massive speed drop

His profile says 1750 kbps, but he is sync'ing at 2656kbps
Since 2M > 1750 kbps ....  Huh

Re: Massive speed drop

Hi there,
Provided there isn't anything else using the connection (as jelv says, p2p programs such as utorrent, or the BBCs iPlayer or 4od) then it does seem that there is a fault there. Please check that the speed remains slow with the ADSL modem/router plugged into the master socket and all other items disconnected from the phone line, if so then we can certainly raise this for investigation for you.
In order to do this please raise a fault at http://faults.plus.net and we will run some line tests and get back to you.
Hope that helps,
jelv

But difference between 2656 and his profile of 1750 is totally insignificant compared to the difference between the profile of 1750 and the 57 kbps actual throughput.

Re: Massive speed drop

There is nothing else going on, no p2p etc. All phones disconnected and still no difference.
I already have a fault open orbrey

Re: Massive speed drop

Thanks for letting me know, I've passed this on to the faults team and will keep an eye on it for you to make sure it's progressing.

Re: Massive speed drop

The speed improved for a while. Now however it is dropping again every day. I really need a reliable connection. Why is it continuing to slow?
