Major Network Crash?

Lost Internet PPP session a short while ago and had trouble reconnecting. Now reconnected, but Broadband usage graphs appear to indicate several gateways had crashed and there are enormous peaks on all the Latency graphs.
Anyone got any concrete news. I see the number of calls waiting has shot up to 145 or so with an 18 minute+ wait time!

Re: Major Network Crash?

Yep - I'm affected too, currently using tethering on my phone.
Looks to be an issue with the Birmingham Node. ( http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/mso.php?id=44882 )

Re: Major Network Crash?

I'm disconnected for last 20 mins or so,  STRUGGLING on 3G with just 'edge' signal.

Re: Major Network Crash?

Same here, the onetime i was able to connect i received a private ip (172.x)
problem is made worse as i cannot tell the router to reconnect as my ppp password contains a special char (<). The only way the router will connect is if i restart it whereby it gets the password via tr-48(sp?)
edit: although pulp - common people on hold is quite nice 😛

There's no estimated time for repair as of yet I'm afraid.

Re: Major Network Crash?

I'd be surprised if it was that Chris as it was 6hrs ago and my drop (& the newtwork graphs) was about half an hour or so ago. Several Gateways seem to have dropped, I'm guessing a major power outage. The Gateways seem to be coming back up according to the Network graphs.
Everyone that's struggling to reconnect, try logging in to your modem/router interface and find the PPP(oA) Internet "Connect" button to click on.
If it's a Thomson, you'll find it here. in the Box marked Internet.
Edit: Whoops, looks like a Gateway may have gone down again!

Re: Major Network Crash?

Yeah there have been a drop on Faraday and Collindale which will be affecting a large number of people.

Re: Major Network Crash?

+1 here. Ive got some weird IP address, not my usual static one. Tried rebooting the modem like three times, got slightly worried until i thought of checking the forums!
Hope it gets fixed soon though, was going to have a quick team deathmatch before bed! .. suppose the extra hour sleep may do me good  Tongue

Re: Major Network Crash?

If someone from DCT could get a Service Status posted that might be useful.
Edit: Oh dear, it looks as though some different Gateways may have gone down now.
Forget that, Graph was updating!

Re: Major Network Crash?

Curious as to why we were suddenly allocated a non-routeable private 172 address?
It's as if someone swapped a couple of interfaces...
Maybe the config was overwritten then restored?
This has happened once before.

Re: Major Network Crash?

Thought it was just me, glad (in a way) to hear I am not on my own.
Seems to take the OR modem DSL light ages to go solid green.
@HalfManHalfBalti - good username, gave me a chuckle.
Has anyone seen my signature, it's gone missing.

Re: Major Network Crash?

See my post here.
Luckily one of my two FTTC circuits is still up so I've just opened a service status thread.
We're not sure of the cause yet but it looks like customers are coming back online.

Re: Major Network Crash?

Lost PPP link 30 minutes ago, now back online.
I'm from Swansea, so it seems this fault affects customers nationwide.
