Recently I've been having lots of MSN problems where it won't sign in, or drop me and quite often messages stall to be delivered as an offline message when I sign in.
I understand this could be a fault with the MSN system but its been happening for weeks on 2 different machines. There has been no network changes my end and everything else works fine. My router (Netgear DG834Gv2) has not been reporting any dropped packets. I have the XP SP2 firewall on though
Anyone else experienced this?
Craig

I have a problem where MSN messenger decides it won't sign in for no apparent reason.
only thing that cures it is to reboot my router.
affects all 4 pc's at once. tweaking my MTU has helped though, maybe you should try that?

Its worth checking the time on your pc as if it gets 2 far out MSN wont let you sign in. If its slightly out then this may not help when signing in

Hi, I get the same with my mac - msn says I'm not connected to the internet, even though everything else is connecting just fine.
What should my MTU be please? I've got mine set to the default, 1500.
Cheers.

1500 should be absolutely fine, but Dave Tomlinson tells me to use 1430.
And who am I to question his superior knowledge?

Yeah, my router is set at 1458 which is factory setting and my desktop is set the same. I never used to have the problem but its happening a couple of times a day. Rebooting helps as it kicks me off and re-signs in again.
I did notice Windows Update had changed the tcpip.sys file as the "more than 10 connections" hack had stopped working and I was getting Event 4226 "TCP/IP has reached the security limit imposed on the number of concurrent TCP connect attempts." when Bittorrent was running. I dont use BT while I use MSN though..
I just wondered if there was a problem somewhere where packets were getting dropped, MSN times out and stores the message.
