Lowering ping times

Hi, have been on Plusnet for nearly 3 months now, everythings been very reliable with decent d/l speeds, but I feel my ping times are a bit on the high side (50-55ms at bbc.co.uk) I requested the interleaving to be turned off about a month ago and to be honest there was no real difference, online gaming still felt a bit laggy.
Just today I saw something about taking the faceplate off the master socket and plugging straight in to the service socket, tried this and ping times have gone down to 39-43ms (again bbc.co.uk). After doing this I also looked at the router's (plusnet-supplied Thomson) 'Link Information' page and noticed that the DSL type is now G.992.5 annex A whereas I'm sure last time i looked it was the non-adsl2 type. The bandwith (up/down) entry says 440 / 16,617, which again I'm sure is far higher than when I last checked.
My question is would using the service socket cause me to connect using adsl2, or have Plusnet upgraded me somehow from their end?

Re: Lowering ping times

Hi rod2040,
You should have been made aware of any upgrades that have taken place on your connection. Plugging into the test socket would not change your connection type though.

Re: Lowering ping times

Hi Joanne,
I meant to post back before now but I had forgotten my user name,
thanks for your reply, since I made my original post I've run the bt speedchecker a few times and the results for the IP profile
have been between 13000 and 16000.
However the results from the page https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=data_transfer_speed give me a line speed of 7.15Mb
Should there be such a large difference between the two?
many thanks,
Rod

Re: Lowering ping times

Hi rod2040,
Not sure why it was stuck at our end but I've changed it to the current BT profile of 13000 so you should see the difference in the next 15 minutes.

Re: Lowering ping times

Hi rod2040,
Yeah it was stuck at our side, that can happen sometimes I'm afraid. Good to hear it's ok now though.

Re: Lowering ping times

Hi JoJo,
thanks for all the help so far, can I be greedy and ask another question Wink
I've seen other posts asking for the upload rate to be uncapped, can I request this over the forums or should I raise a support ticket?
many thanks,
rod

Re: Lowering ping times

50-55ms for ADSL on BT's network is fairly normal from what I can see. That was about the same as I had on Plus Net. After moving to aaisp still on BT's network my ping was the same. Only when I moved onto BE's network (LLU) with aaisp did my ping drop to 30ms.
